So, I had an idea the other day and just wanted to hear some thoughts to see if I'm just being crazy. It came about with all the discussions about ways to increase the viewers watching doubles (getting the top stars to play would help) and with people like Macenroe saying that a lot of singles guys would be better players if they played more doubles. But, how do you get the singles guys to play doubles?

Then, I got the idea: instead of having separate singles and doubles ratings, why not have one overall ratings system that takes both into account?

For example, let's say a Wimbledon singles win is worth 100 points (80 for 2nd place, 60 for semi-final loss, etc.), a doubles win is 100 (split 50/50 between the partners), and mixed is also 50/50.

That way, if one guy only plays the singles and wins, he only gets 100 points. But, if his opponent in the final also plays the men's and mixed doubles and wins both, he would get 80 for 2nd place singles and 50 for each doubles, giving him 180 points and a higher ranking.

I think that would get more top singles guys playing doubles (or risk having their ranking drop) and some doubles guys like the Bryans playing some singles.

The question is, would it work?
