Another thread for a bit of a laugh.
Credit to Backspin1183 for giving me the idea with a post of his.

Here we make up quotes from the players to impersonate them or say things we know they would say.

Also post actual quotes if they're funny or fit their image well.

I'll kick off:

Rafa Nadal on playing some #150-ranked dude in the RG 1R:

"You know, is gonna be very tough match, will have to take my chances, hope I am playing well, no?"
"Is all you can do."

Wins 6-1 6-1 6-1 the next day.

On his victory:

"You know, I thought he played well, was very challenging, I thought I played well, hope I can improve for next rounds."

"Thoughts on tomorrows match with Roger, Rafa?"

"Well, Roger is such great champion and is gon be very tough match tomorrow, no? I have to play my very best and play my game, or else I lose 6-1 6-2 or like that, no? So I am very looking forward to playing Roger tomorrow, and hope it's very good match. Thank you."

And then proceeds to beat Roger with relative ease.....

"Rafa, how did you think your match with Roger went today?"

"Well, Roger is such great champion, and was very tough today, no? I had to play my very best and play my game, or else I lose 6-2 6-1 or like that, no? Maybe Roger wasn't playing so great, maybe his serving was off today, so....you know. Roger is such great champion so...."

That's usually how it went back in the day....

What Nadal does is so absolutely condescending, fake, and disgusting that I just cannot believe he has fans. It is seriously insulting to his opponents.

2014 Rome Open Semifinal

Nadal defeated Gulbis 6-4, 3-6, 6-4

Gulbis:
I was the better player (in the 1st set),
I was still the better player in the 2nd set
and I think I was still the better player in the 3rd set.
I was the better player in the match

Nadal:
If you understand that the best player is one who hits the ball as hard as you can, doesn't matter if the ball goes in or goes out, hits every serve at 216 km/h to 220 km/h... If you think that means you are the best player, maybe he (Gulbis) was the better player today.

Well, do you know how much more hate he would get, if he truly spoke what it was like? It's just your normal, typical answer. You shouldn't take it as serious....

Yeah, that was a real funny one to watch on vid. He says he thought he was the best player in their previous matches as well...

Why so upset?

Should he say "I'm going to thrash him"?

Federer on playing Djokovic:

"I think, honestly, that I was able to play my shots, you know, it's always a challenge to play Novak, we have good matches, maybe, you know, he wasn't feeling so well, that's his business, but I think we both played a good match."

Just be honest. "Well, obviously I am the favorite and if I play my game I should win, but that doesn't mean that I can drop my guard, because he is a professional and is more than capable of winning, especially if I don't play at my usual level."

Tells the truth and insults the intelligence of no one.

Imagine any professional, let alone Nadal, saying that kind of stuff when playing a 6 year old, or a 3.0 player. It insults the intelligence of everyone who hears it. Just be honest and soft-spoken.

Nadal loses enough to believe what he says. Anything can happen in a tennis match. Just because it wouldn't be YOUR mentality doesn't mean it's not perfectly fine for his. He is being honest and softspoken, though his words feel like wrenches falling on your head.

 You are surely unbiased to Nadal's words

But, you have not disputed anything I said in that post. My answer acknowledged that he absolutely could lose, but it also does not insult people's intelligence.

I'm not unbiased. I just don't find it INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to believe he's not ultra confident of himself and sure he'll win every match he plays before he plays it. Does he give seriously you that vibe? I can't think of another top player who's confidence level affects their level of play more. It's as clear as day to see. The only thing Nadal focuses on is the next ball coming across the net, and that's exactly what I find appealing. If he was the type to sit in a presser like Novak and act like he's so sure of himself, I never would have become a fan.

It's called psychological warfare, and Uncle Toni has perfect it through his manchild Nadal. I actually feel bad for Nadal, having his entire life controlled by his uncle (and having to deal with that horrible balding hair).

His press conferences are an insult to the intelligence to everyone who hears them.

We'll agree to disagree, because either way, you seem to care a lot more about Nadal than me. Not gonna continue to derail a thread over someone's butthurt. If it riles you up that much, idk what to say.

The OP started the thread with Nadal, so I responded

You're the one coming in to a) defend Nadal, and b) has Nadal in his name.

A decision I wish I spent more time on to this day. I couldn't think of a username and just put my name and favorite player, it was all I could think of. You'd really be surprised how little Nadal means to me personally. I can just never get over an adult male that is so hatefully fixated on every hair on someone's head and word from their mouth. It's disturbing to me.
