I mean a bunch of disjointed parts that don't work together. He has a big FH, but it works best on HC or even clay due to the heavy spin. Yet he hits with an Eastern FH grip. His FH is a heavy shot but not a knockout shot, so he needs to build points with it.
But when he tries to build points his unstable BH is exposed. His BH would be okay if he ended points quickly with his FH, but he doesn't. His BH isn't built to sustain rally pressure, but his FH isn't built to end points quickly.
He has good court sense, is good around the net, has nice touch, has a good overhead, but one key component of an all court game is missing - a good or even decent slice BH. He so desperately needs a good slice BH to complement his game. This would also protect his fragile BH under rally pressure.
A good slice would also salvage his return game, which sucks. The suckiness is mitigated on slower courts, but slower courts expose his fragile rally BH. On faster courts he can do more damage with his FH, but not that much more, because his FH is spin-based. And faster courts dreadfully expose his lack of a slice BH on return.
He gets by with his big serve and FH, but the cracks in his game inevitably show as a tournament goes on and the quality of opponent increases.
His game doesn't neatly fit any of the surfaces, so the sum of his game is ultimately less than the parts. This increases his mental pressure because it is difficult for him to play naturally in the flow of the game unless he simply overmatches his opponent with weight of shot - which he can do until he gets deeper in tournaments.
In short, his coaches have done a terrible job of building his game, even though he has some great pieces to work with.
