TW and Paintjobs

This may seem like a really ******** question but...

Can TW advertise that a player uses a racquet when he/she really doesn't?

Wilson nCode nSix-One Tour 90 Racquets
Racquet choice of ATP #1 Roger Federer, the nCode Six-One Tour is a stable, control oriented racquet for advanced players.

Obviously we know Fed doesn't play with a nCode, so can they really advertise that is his "racquet choice" or is it really no big deal? I mean its enough that the racquet companies insist on applying paintjobs to players racquets in order to "advertise" new technology and new racquets, but that isn't really libel.

The thing is, that sort of thing sells rackets.

It appears he uses that stick, the posers want to know what he uses.
That is what he supposedly is using.
I'm not worried about pro sticks, I'm worried about mine.
It's sad no one can think in a similar way.

If you've got the evidence in hand (one of Fed's racquets) and can prove that it isn't what Wilson or TW say it is, you should contact the Federal Trade Commission. If not, well.....

wilson prepares all the press information for their racquets and TW is probably under contract to publish this info when they list the racquets for sale.

not TW choice but mandated by Wilson and all other manufacturers (Head re LM prestige, etc)

Yea I know it sells racquets, I mean thats the point of PJs in the first place. So I mean its either really good marketing or some shady business.

I'll let ya know when I get a hold of one...

I'm sure Wilson and all the other racquet manufacturers mandate that TW must use their marketing materials as a condition of having the right to distribute and sell their racquets. It's pretty much the case in most businesses, so the tennis racquet business shouldn't be any different.

well i see it from this point, i bet that 70% of tennis players dont know what a paintjob is and they buy what they see....so if all the tennis players new tennis warehouse would get sued and great loss of money.....but ask anyone else around ion ur club ANYONE you think doesnt know what a paintjob is " do you know what racuqet Adnre Agassi uses?" the'll say the flexpoint cause thats what they see but we know its the donnay pro one

Not false.

"Wilson nCode nSix-One Tour 90 Racquets

Just says racquet choice. Nothing about him actually physically playing with it. Nothing is false in that statement. Wilson and TW aren't stupid enough to simply make false claims in advertising that could cost them money.

Who cares?? Wilson could paint all their rackets alike--then what would you be saying. He's endorsing "WILSON". They make the racket. They own the copyrights to the design, etc. They can paint his, Venus', Serena's, Justine's or Lindsay's rackets any design they want when they own the copyright to that design. Even if it wasn't the same racket, the Ncode 6.1 is probably the closest racket to his that Wilson currently makes and markets.

tenniswarehouse just passes along a companies marketing. its as simple as that, tennis warehouse doens tmake up stuff, they never said roddick uses an ncode, or federer has a pure drive. they simply say what they are told, and there isnt an expectation, especially amongst recreational players, to have them research these findings to make sure every bit of it is true.

On the other hand, its worth noting, that when TW does reviews, they focus on both the good and bad aspects of a frame, thus contradicting what marketing people say, (you will never get a wilson rep to say that the ncode n3 is a bad control stick). Perhaps it would be nice to see them take that additude with informing popel about paintjobs, but they are a retailer, they make their money when you spend yours, so give them a break.

It's an endorsement deal with Wilson...

TW publishes what info they are fed by the manufacturer. Federer is paid a lot of $$$ for an endorsement deal by Wilson. Therefore they have a right to use his likeness to endorse their products.

To say he uses it does not say he uses it every match. He has endorsed it, and was paid handomely to do so. Some endorsement deals are exclusive, others are not.

Needless to say, it is in the best interest of both Federer and Wilson that he endorse it. If someone were to challenge it, your action would have both Wilson and TW as co-defendants.

What's the point really? Use the racket that fits your game. Just because you use a racket that someone endorses does not make you into that player. But I have to admit, endorsement deals are huge today... so apparently it does a lot for the bottom line. Its sometimes hard to grasp the herd mentality of people.

"Racquet of choice"

This doesn't imply or mean this is what he is using on any given day. For instance, my car of choice is a Porsche. Even though every single day I tool around in my 96 Tacoma. There is no false advertising here. It's the way the world works. Plenty of celebs endorse plenty of products they probably only touch when they are shooting the photo or commercial.

To propose TW should do something about this issue is absurd. I assume they are under contract with the companies and besides their job is not to be running around trying to figure out who is using a PJ. Their job is to provide 1st quality products, excellent customer service and competitive prices. All of which they do. The icing on the cake is their comprehensive reviews, knowledgeable staff and demo program.

If anyone is at fault it's Wilson, but they aren't really, so just deal with it. You probably couldn't handle Federer's racquet anyway. There's a perfect racquet out there for your playing style, which is not like Federer's or we would know who you are and you wouldn't have time to troll these boards and obsess over pro's gear.

Absolutely,

And they even brought back a few racquets that were discontinued.
Prestige Classic 600? Prince Graphite Longbody?

Hehe...speaking of which, any more Prestige Classic 600 runs in the near future? Hmm? :) Please? :D
