UFC Spoiler:Matt Hughes vs. GSP

Can't say I was shocked by the outcome but just as with the Franklin/Silva fight, I was shocked by the lopsided way in which it happened. GSP is a real talent but I really hope there is a rematch. GSP may win again but Hughes can do better. As for Silvia/Monson...zzzzzzzzzzz! As others on this forum have mentioned (35ft6, GraniteChief), the UFC heavyweight division continues to be the minor leagues of MMA. Please discuss.

Silvia should never be allowed to fight again. WTF!? He should be fined or something. His last two fights have been really bad boxing. NEVER in MMA have I seen a guy try to outpoint his opponent by jabbing the whole fight. He's a disgrace. I hope Dana White is so pissed he brings in a decent Pride fighter to demolish Silvia's arrogant face. (maybe Fedor's baby brother or Mark Hunt, both guys will make Silvia their b$%^h... putting him against Fedor or Crocop would be murder...)

The Hughes fight was not what I expected. At some point, I thought Hughes was going to take it to the ground. He was making absolutely no inroads on his feet, why didn't he try to take it to the ground? Was he really that afraid of GSP's athleticism?

I was sort of surprised to see that GSP looks much bigger than Hughes? He really is a huge guy for somebody who's listed at 5'10" 169 pounds. Everybody I talked to wanted GSP to win. I noticed on the UFC reality show that Hughes seems like a jerk but I didn't know how much MMC fans dislike him.

Anyway, GSP is going to manhandle Matt Serra.

I was pretty shocked at how hesitant Hughes was to go for the takedown, as well. GSP is a real athlete. I agree with you, he looked very big for that weight. I totally forgot about the TUF mandatory title fight. What a turd. I really hope that's a Spike special because only an idiot would pay to see those matches. And Silvia....argghh! Arlovsky isn't the best fighter but at least he was entertaining. Now we get to look forward to Chuck KO-ing Tito in <60 seconds.

Tito would be a fool to try to box with Chuck. Tito needs to figure out a way to get Chuck on the ground as quickly as possible. Too bad for him that Chuck has freakishly good take down defense.

Seriously, Silvia talks a lot of crap. I think he called Fedor a little shrimp once. If Dana is an actual fight fan, he's gotta put Tim against a decent fighter. Make him pay for that fiasco last night. A fight like that drives fans away. They think, "oh, it's just really bad boxing." There's about 15 heavyweights in the world who would beat Silvia any day of the week and I wonder if Dana is going to make him fight any of them ever.

Just watched the fight again on youtube. Okay, Hughes did try to take him down. GSP simply outclassed him. Wow, the second time around the dominance is way more striking. No pun intended.

It's not too often that you'll see another WW overpower Hughes like GSP did last night. At one point Hughes even had double underhooks and GSP shook him off pretty quickly/easily. Very impressive.

^ It was weird to see Hughes looking slow and confused. Usually, he's dominating the other guy. It's like watching your dad get his *** kicked.

It's 1-1, a rematch is definitely in order and it will be very highly anticipated. I'd also like to see BJ Penn do some cardio and fight GSP again either right before or after the rematch with Hughes.

Sadly, we'll have to wait a while for either of those matches as GSP has to give Matt Serra a beatdown first. The match will be such a joke. GSP by KO in < 2 minutes of Round 1.

How will Matt Serra even prepare for this fight? How do you prepare for a fight against an opponent who's stronger, faster, and more well rounded than you? I think Matt and GSP like each other, so it's going to be interesting to see if GSP just does the bare minimum to win without embarrassing or killing Matt. The way Matt was fighting his TUF finals opponent to a standstill does not bode well for him. If GSP can toss Hughes aside, he's going to yank Serra around like a puppet.
