i play practice matches against a guy 1/2 level above me and 15 years younger..i win about 1 out of 3-4 sets..His returns really bother me and i sometimes revert to an underhand serve..i can hit it well with sidespin. i win about 60% of the underarm serve points. Even when he senses it coming it takes him off the court (mostly in the ad court) and i still many times can win the point..To me it's a legitimate play.. I seldom try it in league/tournament play but i will if the occasion arises

I used in a match recently when I was struggling with the wind and an opponent who had a good read on my 2nd serve. I never try to use it when my opponent isn't ready. I've found it works pretty well and actually won a key point in the match with it.

I hit my underhand serve like this:

Never tried this though:

I wanna see how well a whole match of underarm serves goes. Fans will get really bored with it.
Isnt this what happened when Chang won the french open like in 89 or something? He got hurt and wasn't able to hit a proper serve, and ended up winning with an underhand serve.

No, he hit maybe two underhand serves against Lendl. It wasn't the entire match. He also crowded the service line which resulted in Lendl double faulting.

Possibly the most strategic effect the underarm serve has is to illicit such a reaponse as the OP has shown. Ruffling feathers is a highly effective tactice.
