There are some places that offer tickets and hotel deals.

Since the easiest way to get to the Open in by subway (#7), your best bet it just to try and find a cheap hotel online (expedia or hotels.com).

Try to stay away from the time square area since it's more expensive.

You should be able to find something for around $150 a night.

if you want to stay in Manhattan, you'll be hard pressed to find anything, but yeah if you take a look at any of the travel consolidators like kayak, orbitz, etc, they will give you some choices. But to be honest, i think $150/night is a bit optimistic. Unless you wanna stay in a dump, i think at least $200/night is more realistic. Plus remember that NYC has high hotel taxes tacked on.

the other alternative is to stay out near Laguardia airport in Flushing. There's a Sheraton, and I know a few other hotels. but if you were combining a trip to the US Open with some sight seeing in Manhattan, this might be a little inconvenient for you. But if you're coming just for the Open, this will be very convenient. It's just one subway stop from Flushing - Main Street to Willets Point/Shea Stadium (the stop for the US Open center).

The building where I live.. the first few floors is actually a hotel (Upper East Side, Manhattan). Takes 2 transfers to FLUSHING.. about 40min subway ride. I think the rates is usually lower than usual NYC rates (about $200/night or even less).

Place is called the Helmsley Medical Tower http://www.nyp.org/patients/helmsley.html

You could also look on long island, rates are slightly less. There was a couple of times I stayed on the Jersey side and commuted in. Saved over $100. a day in hotel costs. Just had the tolls and gas.

The LaGuardia Marriott is not bad - very close to the Open - but staying there is not that cheap normally and I imagine they jack up the rates and/or are likely going to be sold out for the US Open.

As an aside, I was in NY (for work not tennis) during the OPen either last year or the year before staying at the Benjamin Hotel on Lex and 50th and a number of players including Lindsey Davenport (must have been 2 years ago) - as I was in the lobby, she comes walking out of the elevator.

I'll agree with that, too. Because Laguardia is close by, there's all kinds of places to stay, like Clarions and Marriots. I stayed in the Marriot last year, i think, and it was decent.

This is a warning to everyone, though. A serious warning.

New York City hotels have been plagued by bed bugs. Its a huge problem. If you go online and google "bed bugs NYC", you'll be amazed at the info you'll find. So my advice is, be careful about where you stay.

Sorry to bring that up. The last thing you want to do, though, is infest your home with these things. Big time bad news.
