Spadea the playa shares his rhyme
By John Ryan
Mercury News
Fortunately, those of you fellas who have waited until today to come up with a Valentine's Day plan -- which, according to scientific data, is 100 percent of the men reading this item -- Buzz found the perfect adviser.

Last year, Vince Spadea wrote a book called ``Break Point'' in which he outlined Da Vince Code, his rules for macking. But to label him an author is so limiting, since he's also the best white rapper on the men's tennis tour, and he has his act in San Jose for the SAP Open.

``You gotta go on cheapo.com and buy some carnations, send 'em over to six locations.

No, I would just make a solid move, buy a card for your mother, then your lover.

Candlelight, try not to get in a fight so you have an eye that got hit by a right.''

Yes, this certainly was one of the odder interviews we've done, even if the world's 64th-ranked player wasn't wearing his ``Spadea Ain't Afraid Of Ya'' T-shirts ($25 on www.vincespadea.com). Spadea The Gladiatea, as he calls himself, sat down and said ``I've got a stye in my eye and I'm talking to two guys.''

So who's the lucky lady tonight for Vitty Cent (another nickname)?

``The Valentine who's gonna be mine? I don't know. It's just a matter of which phone line

I ring, and what bring at Burger King I bring''

Somebody famous?

``I was poor but I endured, it was no chore, now I'm on the tour,

Fourteen years, lots of tears, still looking for Spears

Been shopping at Sears''

Vince Sanity (yep, another nickname) said maturity has given him a better serve, tactical plan and transitional setup, but we couldn't tell if he meant the tennis or the babes. We do envision him being mighty popular at Ladies Day later this week.

But today . . .

``Valentine's is an important day. I'm all about spread the love, the Spadea way.''

Please, Vince, don't spread your "love" on me. I'll stick with Miracle Whip, thank you very much.

Spadea the Gladieta? Freaking hilarious. If I had $25 to blow I almost would buy one of his shirts. But that transaction will never happen. When his tennis is done, he should make a run at The White Rapper Show on VH1.

The guy cracks me up. During tournaments, Spadea should just challenge his opponents to battle rap instead of playing actual tennis.

Your just mad cause he's better than you:p . LMAO. He's good but I am better.
"Spadea your raps are lame, so go on the court and start working on your game." :D

Nah

Gimmicky Vinnie quit steppin' on the mic, you're rappin' it's trash
Ain't sick, plainly you're game stinks, the raquet will get you cash
So practice your tennis skills, though you'll never be a feder-ER
Use you're experience veter-an, Fact is you can't put to-gether words

The best was the thing on the Tennis Channel where Vince drives around Las Vegas rapping about his rent a car. What a genius.

Nope. A lot of rap songs are really intelligent and thought-provoking, and they are really excellent pieces of artistry.

Depending on who you are talking about, if you are talking about someone like Immortal Techinque, then yes. But if we're talking about...... say..... "Lil' John" then no.

Lil' John may just be able to spell "intelligence," or not. We will never know. Thats all the thought he has provoked from me. You're right. I havn't heard much from Immortal Technique, but I love "Dance with the Devil, "heard that one? And you can never discount rappers like Mos Def and Talib Kweli either.
