vcore 89 =new mid fad?

I remember 7-8 years ago the 85 was re-manufactured due to large demand from this forum. and people were harping on about how it's the best thing ever. few years ago the AG100 got massive positive reviews from a large group of people here (which seems to have dwindled through the iterations of the 100.) Now it seems like the vcore 89 is the recent mid fad. Is this really an amazing stick, o.o? the tw team have given it high ratings as they do with every mid. how does it compare to the ag100?

I think people who have been on this forum a while will have seen the fads come and go (the latest one being chris' "string sensitive" c10 pro). I wonder if the mid will eventually lose popularity as Federer continues to decelerate. this probably has nothing to do with anything, but I've noticed at least that on the bay fed's 90s aren't bidding as well as they used to (but then again, novaks head speeds aren't either).

Andy from tennis warehouse seems like one of the few people working at tennis warehouse who can really play tennis. He uses a mid and he seems to be the only one who feels like the smaller headsize is noticeable. I've read other reviews who have compared the 89 to play like a 95... believable?

I feel like most of the play testers from TW can really play tennis. They are all rated 4.5 or higher for the most part. They may not have perfect strokes, but I think we have all lost to players with strange strokes before.

The reason the 89 plays like a 95 is the width of the hoop. It is a larger hitting zone.

As for mids being a fad, who knows. I think it is common knowledge that in terms of pure racquet pleasure - mids deliver in spades. The k90, Prestige, Dunny 100, YY 89 are all top tier, but on clay in the summer heat in the 3rd set, it may not be optimal for many players who are not used to it.

Some of the mids available now are much more playable than their predecessors. The current version of the Prestige mid is a good example. It is designed for a different game to the Prestige Classic. The current Blade Tour is another example. I havent played the VCore 89 but Yonex is probably going for the same market. Will they last? Hard to say. Most of the kids I see coming up play with bigger headed rackets. But Yonex rackets tend to play like rackets with bigger heads for the reason given by Power Player.

I think, for those of us grew up playing with a mid, and the reason why we continue to play with a mid because we are comfortable with it. Regardless of what Mr. Federer does with his career.

I certainly hope the "mid fad" starts up again, because we all know half of the current PS/Tour 90 users are inspired by Mr. Federer (even though they don't have the game for it, but that's another discussion). And I think interests in mid frames from a non-mid player will diminish as Federer's career diminish.

And that's sad, because years ago, people used mids because they had their values, regardless if the top guys is using one or something different.

The 89 blew me away in terms of what it could do, the feel, all of it. There is simply nothing wrong with it. But I really think it's made for the top players out there, not me. I would play simply amazing tennis with it when I was 'on', the footwork was right, the arm fresh. Better players can maintain that for much longer than me, and this beast frame is made for those beasts. Epic frame for the Andy Gersts of the world.
