We need a name for pros who don't try very hard, or who take pro tennis only half-seriously.

Which name would be good for pros who have potential but just don't try their best?

  • tourists

  • too-cool-for-schoolers

  • Instagram warriors

  • weekend warriors

  • hobby pros

  • leopards (named after the famous military tank)

  • merkavas (named after an Israeli tank)

  • challengers (ironic/sarcastic name, also a famous military tank)

  • walkover gurus

  • Instaslackers

After Raducanu's recent statements and rubbish form, plus the career trajectories of Bouchard, Andreescu, Muguruza, Kenin, Stephens, Penko (for a while), Nick, Bublick, Paire, Fognini, Gulbis, Tomic and many others, we need a name for these kinds of semi-pros or quasi-pros who semi-try half the time, or only play seriously when their mood allows it, or only in every 3rd event or just 2-3 times a year...

You know what I mean. The players for whom you never know whether they will put in the effort or tank, or semi-tank.

The poll is only meant to give you an idea what we're looking for, hopefully you can come up with a better word to describe this class of player.

Andreescu is an absolute warrior and here in Canada seen a ton of her up close. Totally not deserving of any criticism it's all on her body.

To the rest, I think the age old Pusher label is more than accurate.

I just need to mention that "weekend warriors" is another ironic name because tankers/slackers rarely play pro events on weekends.

Weekends is when they are free, so perhaps they are warriors in other things then...

... like posting 56 selfies in just an hour.

Now, that's GOATing.

Former Pro Jerzy Janowicz lost in ITF Poland F2 yesterday.
We must be careful not to confuse "has-beens" with tankers/slackers.

I really don't know whether Jerzy is a has-been or a tank-slacker. (Obviously, if he is a slacker then he is also a has-been.) Did he not try or did he have tons of injuries?

London slang for this is:

You're a wasteman!!
Googled this.

"Is wasteman British?

A man who acts like a boy, lacking maturity, and generally wastes his time and life by doing everything to achieve nothing. This is and has been for many years now a term used by innercity teenagers in the UK and globally."

Yes. Black British in origin but now widely used in London.

You need to remove Rios from the list. Not sure his lack of a slam win was due to lack of trying and in the end back injuries prematurely curtailed his career. Ivanisevic: Often stopped by better players but he kept putting himself in there a bit.

They tanked a bunch of matches, were known for it.

Obviously, nothing like Tomic, I'm not saying they're all the same...
