What are some of your favourite book series?

On Tuesday, Jan. 8 2013, the last book in The Wheel of Time series will be published. I am eager to read it and sad at the same time. After 14 books this epic series will be over. This reminds me of all the other series of books I have read. Here are some of my favourites in no particular order:
-Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin
-Millenium Series by Stieg Larsson
-Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
-Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
-The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett
-The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King
-Jack Sawyer Books by Stepehen King and Peter Straub
-Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien
-The Dresden Files BY Jim Buther
-ALL the series by Robin Hobb
-Malazan Book of the Fallen by Stephen Erikson
-The Passage Series by Justin Cronin
-Hunger Games, sort of..
-Acacia Series by David Anthony Durham
-The King Killer Chroniclas by Patrick Rothfuss
-The Light Bringer Series by Brent Weeks
Okay, I'll stop there...

The dune series, hunger games, complete works of Sir Aurthur Conan Doyle, The Destroyer (Remo Williams), Harlen Coben' s books, and while not a series, Randy Wayne White writes good material.

David Gemmell's various series of books are truly amazing imo. Starting with 'Legend' back in the 80s the whole lot of the "Drenai" series are fantastically entertaining.

More recently he did a three book series called Troy which is a brilliant and mystical interpretation of the Troy story.

If you liked Game of Thrones type books then Gemmell's books will be for you. Start with Legend, then read Waylander etc (the books of the Drenai series).

Looks interesting, actually passed the book,"Legend" by because I thought it was the novel version of that Tom Cruise movie.

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Here follows a small summary from Wikipedia:

"Discworld is a comic fantasy book series written by the English writer Terry Pratchett, set on the fictional Discworld, a flat disc balanced on the backs of four elephants which, in turn, stand on the back of a giant turtle, Great A'Tuin. The books frequently parody, or at least take inspiration from J. R. R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, H. P. Lovecraft and William Shakespeare, as well as mythology, folklore and fairy tales, often using them for satirical parallels with current cultural, political and scientific issues."

Haven't read that many yet, but so far the ones I've read have been great fun. It's a shame it's hard to motivate myself to read more right now, but having to read so much in school just puts me off.

No.. I've heard people say the same thing before though. They are unrelated stories.

If you read Gemmell's 'Legend' you'll be hooked. Follow it up with 'Waylander' or 'The King Beyond The Gate' and you'll be seeking his whole back catalogue.

I agree with McLovin on Ken Follett

but:
Cicero's life by Robert Harris, who also wrote Enigma, Pompei and the Ghost. I read all of them but that Cicero's trilogy is the best imo

and the third opus about to be released
crazy entertaining reading, very well documented and perfect suspense, sharing the incredible life of a very clever man in Rome during Caesar's rise. Very good reading, cant wait for third opus to be released.
Spoiler alert: caesar wins in the end!

And The Blue Rose Trilogy by Peter Straub. Three excellent books that stand well on their own, but great when combined!
