What are the trophies that the players get to KEEP?

I've seen it mentioned in round about ways that the players do NOT get the trophies you see during the presentations and they are in fact smaller replicas. If this is true does anyone have photos of the trophies that players get for tournaments such as the majors?

Here is an example. At the very end Borg holds up a trophy, then is handed a much smaller replica of the same thing before he walks off (at the very end).

Recently Roddick remarked about queens that they never gave him a crown but they did let him hold the trophy for about 30 seconds.

So what is the deal? What do plays get these days when they win the majors? I find it odd that they don't get the ones presented to them, my old little league trophies are bigger than what Borg gets in that first video. Not that the size is the most important thing, but that thing looks like a toy. I just think it's interesting that you get to the pinnacle of a worldwide sport and you are handed something that you could make tea in when you win one of the biggest tournaments in the world.

My guess is that if the players would get to keep the actual trophies, accidents can happen and I don't think officials at grand slams would be very happy to see years of history gone down the drain... That's what I think anyways but don't take my word for it.

They still get replicas. Of course to the players, it is the achievement and not the size of the trophy that is important. For example, in local martial arts tournaments, many times the 1st place trophy is 6 feet tall. Does that mean a 9 y.o. kid winning it has done something more than a pro winning Wimbledon?

Of course not, I just find it odd that Borg is handed a tiny tin looking cup is all. I understand the achievement vs. the hardware, but it seems "cheap" to me. Does anyone have pics of trophies the players actually get?

There wouldn't be years of history, because if every player gets to keep the actual trophy, there would be a new trophy each year.

It's not like they'd have to RETURN the trophy if they didn't win the next year.

Why not, most images are copyrighted....at least the owner of those photos gets credit.

I think the miniature replica for GS singles titles is a relatively new thing. McEnroe once said that when he won his first USO title against his friend Vitas, that all he got was a commemorative coin.

In some cases, the trophies that pros get for smaller tournaments are nicer than the ones for the GS.....but obviously don't come with the prestige.

Are the trophies all miniaturized to the same scale throughout the grand slams (the replicas)?

No. The US Open gives an exact size replica while the other 3 give the minis. I think that the slams should all give exact size replicas because whenever I see the ones the winners keep they look like something you'd pick up in a gift shop, imo.

Yeah full sized replicas would seem more appropriate. Anyway thanks for those pictures, I really appreciate it.
