What do you do in tournaments?

Do you get nervous?
Are you scared because you are playing a ranked player?
Is it your first tournament?
Have they found you weakness?
Are you pissed at a bad line call?

What you do you to win, your stratigies(sp). I want to know how you deal with the situations when they occur thanks.

I am going to be going in a tourny this week just wanted to hear so I can settle down and know what I have to do.

Thanks

If your opponent makes bad line calls, do not turn around and cheat them as well. I know many people who do this, and I have done it myself, and it pisses people off, so they just make even more bad line calls. It is hard to win the match if you act up about it. Also, people would rather lose to a fair person, so if you make good line calls while theirs are bad, it should stay a good environment.

well, i mainly play crap at tournaments, i can hold my own for a bit, then my game drops and i lose concentration when thinking about the next round. Not gonna happen this year though, im staying focussed which is what you have to do.

take one match at a time and concentrate on it, don't let your mind wander onto other things such as "i wonder who i'll face in the next round" or "i wonder what the score is on that match over there".... focus.

A few years ago when I was 10,11 and 12. I used to always throw up before every first match. I guess it was nerves, all I can say is that I go into every match thinking to myself, no regrets. That's all I can say is no regrets.

If an oppenent makes a bad line call ask him about it but dont be offensive. Just ask what the call was and say something like "oh it looked in to me" or "are you sure?" Generally you wont get the call but if the other person isnt a total A hole he wont make too many more bad calls.

If everything seems to be going against you play each ball not the other person. Act like its a coach feeding you balls on the other side. When you make a mistake dont get down on yourself but think about a part of your game. For instance on forehands keep telling yourself to not raise up or to keep looking at the point of contact after you hit it. Keep your mind on your game, not the score of the match.

I know, easier said than done. These are some things i am trying to work on for my tournament this weekend.

the beauty of playing tournaments is that most of the time you have no idea who is that name you see in the draw paired with you.... when you finally meet this person who makes you feel all these weird things, you start thinking if he looks scarry or not... to be honest, you can never tell, I've been trashed by guys who I thought looked like walking cows and I have also beaten guys who I thought were going to kill me ( 6'5' dudes all dressed up, you'll know what I mean).
just don't overthink it much, do your thing out there and make sure you come prepared, towel, water , etc. .... but at the same time make sure you don't take anyone lightly , these guys are always good, and be prepared to fight... at this level you can really get humiliated if you don't take it seriously from the first point. but don't get tight... just make sure you put out a good fight and hopefully win the match, and then take it from there.

Rios has it right: focus mostly on yourself and how your doing. Once you get into it, just start letting that mental computer of yours go to work, figuring out how to unlock the other guy's game and get the win. . . figure out what's working and what's not, what he can handle and what he can't.

You will get nervous no matter what level you play but if you play as many tournaments as much as you can this seems to be more controlable and it is easier to find your comfort level. I think most people are so engrossed with the idea of winning that it puts a lot of pressure on them. My advice would be to try to find your game and play the best you can. Keep in mind that at your best someone can still beat you. Funny that the best matches I have played in I ended up losing. But no hard feelings. I would rather play in a match where I get pushed no matter if I lose than play in a reactive game.
