What is the oldest tennis match you have watched live on TV that you still remember vividly?

1988 USO final when Wilander beat Lendl. I’d basically only seen Wimbledon on TV before as UK terrestrial TV seldom showed anything bar that and Queens.
From memory it was on Channel 4 which was a relatively new channel (‘82) and trying to be different. The match lasted forever and they never showed tennis again ☹

hard to remember chronological order of matches but i think this is a good one for me too. wasn't this the match where wilander served like 90 something % first serves?

Lendl at the French Open 1984. Remember it like yesterday. Watched the Semis & Finals

I did watch the Wimbledon 1980 final, but I’ve seen this so many times since it’s clouded my memory

Graf-Sabatini 95’ in RG was probably my first viewing of the sport but most vivid is Graf-Hingis infamous encounter in 99’. Rafer-Ivanisevic 2001 Wimbly made me a tennis fan

Don’t remember that feature but was intrigued at the time that he chose as a tactic to slice the majority of his backhands.

Graf vs. HIngis, the 1999 FO final.

I saw the bad line call weirdness, and the meltdown at the end, and with that jeering crowd reaction of that bizarre end of the match.
I felt sorry for Hingis with her unfortunate and surprising loss of composure, and her mom
came out to help console, but I also wanted Graf to win so much.

And yeah, "Martin(k)a" was the prettiest top wta player to me at that time, until Sharapova to me I'd admit. But Hingis needed or should have developed more
muscle and power over her career, imo.

And oldschool style of Graf vs. the newer spinnier control from a light racquet, the wave that HIngis was maybe a pioneer or precursor of.
Graf using a 362g swingweight maxg200 dunlop, then later an oldschool wilson prostaff custom for her using oldschool heavy racquets and with her hard "greman-slice" which she could sometimes attack with, is part of why I stick with the wilson kps88 today.

Maybe not vividly, but the first match I watched pretty seriously was Puerta vs Nadal RG final.

Remember rooting for Puerta because he was kinda the underdog with great upsets and a super heavy topspin forehand (roids or not I feel his forehand and form were underrated for that tournament) and then getting annoyed at Nadal for getting frigging everything back - there was just no way to hit through him.

Little did I know he would go on to become by far the greatest on the surface.
