most players seem to have a good fh and 1st serve, but weak backhand and weak 2nd serve.

for me i think i'm pretty well rounded, except for volleys. my volleys suck.

My whole game is either great or terrible.

Backhand, overheads, and recently volleys have been the only things that are consistent day in day out.

Second serve and forehand are my biggest weapons and yet they're also the least consistent. One day I'm smacking winners past my coach, the next day I'm dumping balls into the net against weaponless players I normally beat quite easily.

Playing high overhead shots from the back of the court, returning moonballs. Should be a similar to a serve action but the height in which the ball drops from messes up the timing. A shot that rarely practiced, so yeah easily my weakest shot.

Best: Forehand, maybe. My backhand has been a bit off this year, slowly coming back, but it is just dependable, not a killer. I serve well, though I over play the first and I am not as aggressive on the the 2nd serve as I should.
Worst: Backhand volley. Actually, the tweener... I've hit myself trying it, it sure felt the worst.

I have a killer drop shot, a pretty good slice and a general mediocrity with all my top spin shots, net game, serve etc.

Really? Tweener is so easy with a bit of practice, and sooooooo fun!

Best shot: 2nd serve (in doubles, we get a lot of easy points from good kickers bouncing to receiver's ear)
Worst shot: High BH return off of a lob

Well, ok.
To me their fh's aren't ****ty. They hit with a lot of pace and depth. I guess your definition of "regular" fh must be ATP and "good" is top 5?

How do you practice it? It rarely ever happens that i get lobbed like that to hit one

Drill #1: Face away from the net. Drop feed a ball on your FH side, close to your body [not in between your legs]. Let the ball drop to about knee height and hit a FH back towards the net. This is just to get comfortable with the motion the arm has to take. Your body is not in the way as in a real tweener but you have to let the ball drop enough to get your wrist to flex at the right angle. The higher you hit it, the more difficult this will be.

Drill #2: Same as drill #1 but drop feed the ball between your legs. In order to hit the tweener, you have to step forwards as the ball drops past your waist so that you can make contact beyond the vertical plane of your legs. Your contact point will be closer to the net than your center of gravity. If you didn't do this, you could hit yourself in a dangerous place.

Drill #3: Stand at the SL, face away from the net, toss the ball high and towards the BL [not too much forward momentum]. Jog towards the ball and time it such that you can do what you did in drill #2, only now you are moving a lot more.

You'll get a lot of oohs and aahs if you can pull this off during a match. Just make sure you don't fall down after hitting the shot.

Here's a good tutorial:

On the practice court like every other shot.
If your going to practice shots in matches you will never become great at something.
Go on court alone and drill it.

First just drop ball infront of you turned away from net and step over and try to hit it between legs, slowly.
Then as you get a feel drop it more forward and higher just a little, then gradually build up from there.

Fh/serve - can always make them or hit the tape, even still asleep

Fh volley is weakest, i reach too much. Bh volley was also bad, then i realized keeping the shoulder back isnt limited to groundstrokes :)

I advocate using a table tennis ball in the rumpus room, its slower and easier to catch up to, try to hit the window. Start throwing the ball straight, then a bit off to the side which requires better timing....

Best shot- Usually 1st serve and forehand, slice defensive shots are generally good but are only used to defend!
Worst shot - Usually 2nd serve, sometimes both serves. Sometimes drive backhand, when really tight my forehand can play up (lacks pace, goes too loopy and I push at the ball a bit).

Best shot: BH (double handed)

Worst shot: FH. When a match gets tight its the first to fall apart. Sometimes it feels like i never hit one before.

Good news ! My second serve has gone from 3.0 to 3.5 lately, and last night I was serving 4.0 second serves.
I rarely play much but I happy to see huge progress on my serve.
This is the only good present God has given me in 18 months along with finally learning how to cook and save money.
My first serve is pretty solid 4.0 to 4.5

My cross court backhand is solid but down the line its horrible !! I almost never hit the down the line backhand
I also have a good slice shot only when I am pushed out wide.
