I don't think JMac has traveled down to Melbourne for a few years. TTC has Martina for their coverage, ESPN2 has PMac and Enberg for their coverage. That's probably the budget right there, so they save JMac for Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the USO.

Part of the draw is done randomly by computer. Part of it was also done by JMAC drawing numbers.

Then I would guess that either he wasn't willing to stay for the whole tournament, or neither one of the broadcast networks (ESPN & TTC) was willing to pay his price to have him stay. I haven't heard that he's working for Channel 7 in Australia or UK/European networks, so maybe it was his choice. It is kind of odd, if he was already down there.
