Which racquet to get?

I am in need of a new racquet (beacuse my coach told me that the Head IS.12 didn't suit my play). My swings are long and fast, and I am a baseliner. I have a double handed backhand. Of these racquets, which would you recommend: POG OS/MP, Prince TT Warrior MP, Prince TT Graphite MP, Prince TT Rebel MP, Prince TT Hornet Tungsten MP, or Dunlop 400G. I know this is a long list, but please help me decide.

I would go for the POG OS since your a baseliner, but since you live in L.A. you should go to racket doctor over at atwater village near glendale. They are located at glendale blvd. You can demo those racquets you listed. You can pick up a Ti Radical OS for $49.99, Prince TT Graphite OS for $49.99, Prince TT Warrior OS for $39.99, POG mid/OS for $99.99 and all babolat racquets for $129.00.

Thanks Gmlasam, I think I will give racket doctor a visit. Can you please explain to me why I should get the POG OS rather than the POG MP (I see you prefer the MP)? Also, if I do get the POG, what should the string tension be for Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17g synthetic gut? Thanks a lot :p !

gmlasam,

I've you've had a hit with the TT Warrior (mp and os) how do you think it compares to the POG OS? Was given another POG to use after the car fiasco but Im finding my wrist is starting to play up (broken twice playing football) and seems to be a touch unhappy at the weight of the racquet. Have heard mixed reviews of the Warrior, although mainly good things about the OS version.

I use the mid because I'm an all court player and compliments my playing style. I need a more headlight and manuverble racquet when I play the net.

Since you stated you are more a baseline player, then the OS will really compliment your game style. The OS is also very manuverble at the net, specially for an OS racquet, but the POG mid is just a little at the net.

If I use syn. gut, I use PSG orginal 17 string at 60 lbs, but using Poly, I currently use Babolat Pro Hurricane on mains and Forten Sweet 17 syn.gut on crosses strung at 57 lbs.

You can't go wrong the the POG. it such a spin doctor.

AndrewD,

I like the POG OS better. The Warrior is too light, and could never find my groove with it. Perhaps, adding some lead weights would help, but I wasn't really impressed by it. It had a nice pop and great on serves, but not really my liking.

Thanks for the responses. Is the tension for synthetic gut the same for OS or MP? If I get a MP, I should string it @ 60 pounds?

Tension for OS and MP are different due to the fact their are more strings on the OS which gives bigger sweet spot and trampoline effect. This is why string tension range recommendations are much higher on OS racquets than they are on smaller heads.

I string my OS about 4 to 6 lbs tighter than I do on my mid plus. But, it all comes down to "your" preference.

I would highly recommend the tt hornet mp with some weight added. It is the racquet that sharapova is still using under a shark paintjob and I use it. I serve very well with it and with weight added, it is very very good from the baseline. It is very reasonably priced as it is a discontinued model.

Hello,
I am about to switch from the Shark MP to the Hornett Tungsten MP, because, funny as it is, the Shark gives me elbow problems. I tried my wifes Hornett Tungsten and love it. No elbow troubles. Would just like to have the Hornet a little heavier. Like the Shark or even a bit more.
What is your experience with this racquet ?

How can it be tweaked to be a little heavier, a little beefier ?

thanks, Lemmie

Hi Lemmie,

I found that adding at least one ounce inside the handle is all that is needed to make the hornet mp(tungsten version) play wonderfully. I also found that adding 2 ounces inside the handle is very good too. It depends on my opponent and court surface which customization I select. Try adding the weight in the handle. Good luck. Where in Germany are you located? I love Germany and really love the German people too.

Thanks for your quick reply !
I will test that asap.
I live in the northern part of Germany. Like north east of Hamburg, directly at the baltic sea.
Have you visited Germany already ?
Where are you from ?

Best, Stefan

Hi Stefan, I am in Pennsylvania, USA but originally from New York. I have visited Germany several times but really just southern parts- Munchen, Lindau, Fussen(spelling?), Augsburg and other places... Germany is beautiful and the people have been very very good to me. One guy I know is from Bamberg but lives in Munchen and he is a very close friend. I stay at his place and he stays at mine. Too bad he doesn't play tennis. Let's enjoy the upcoming olympics. Take care. Michael
