Why no Multi/Poly?

I will try multiple polys just because this setup is so cheap and plays so well that it is worth it. As much as I think Gut is the best ever, it costs a lot when I am breaking it in 8 hours or so.

hit tonight in mid 60 degree weather with my friend who hits a heavy ball with alot of spin and the OGSM16/BHBR17 played much better in the cooler weather. the control was back. however 15 mins later, the OGSM snapped. i got less than 3 hours out of this string job. excellent playability in cooler weather but heck, i'll have to restring ever 2 hitting sessions.

restrung the PS85 w/ OGSM16 crossed w/ PolyStar Energy at 48/46# this time. Energy has worked well as a cross.

I'm real interested in hearing about that one. I have the sppp strung and ready at :53#s.

I know pros pro makes an sppp clone, so if this works I may try that and then reel it up.

bhbr as a cross is a string destroyer. I just strung up ogsm16/sppp 1.23 at 48/45. Sppp seems thicker than 1.23, more like 1.26. ogsm/sppp stringbed feels pretty plush as does ogsm/CoF. Energy, as a soft poly, might be a good combo with ogsm mains. Tomorrow night I will test (1)ogsm/sppp vs (2)ogsm/CoF vs (3)TonicBF/Qu4ttro.

just got back from hitting in hot noon time temps. OGSM/Energy indeed plays better than OGSM/BHBR. better control, comfort, and feel. i was splitting time btwn 2 sticks so i only spent maybe 1 hr at most w/ this but so far impressions are favorable. hoping to get better durability out of this setup.

The sppp feels really good and has good spin. I did see some notching already though, so I need to monitor that. If it lasts, I will be happy.

just from that short time of hitting yesterday, the mains were already notching and had started moving as well.

How does sppp play compared to cyberflash cross? Spin, power, control, feel?

Spin seems easily as good. The feel is better. I love it. Everything else seems rather similar. I need a little more time with it as I only got to hit singles for an hour or so and then played doubles. But I think SPPP will be my string if lasts long enough and doesnt break the mains too soon.

I was surprised by the spin. It was excellent.

Back in the 'days of old', I used SPPP mains and Gamma Syn Gut crosses. Never thought to switch them, but now I may try it the next time I restring. :)

Just came back from 2 hours of singles. The weather was a little cool, high 60's. ogsm/CoF felt a little stiff and underpowered. ogsm/sppp is very plush and spinny. After the 1st set I switched to TonicBF/Qu4ttro gut/poly and my service winners went way up. So much easy power on serves and groundstrokes. I didn't have to swing so hard to hit hard, heavy shots. Just add some moderate topspin and there you go. I won the 2nd and 3rd set easily.

I don't know if bhbr is any tougher on my arm than sppp or CoF. I get the sense that if I play 2-3 hrs with ogsm/sppp, my arm would get pretty stiff and sore. So it's probably more a function of ogsm not being that arm friendly in a hybrid with poly. Gut/poly is just so much more comfortable. TonicBF BT7/poly felt terrible and stiff at 55/50 but at 50/45 it feels very plush.

TonicBF/poly will probably last me 8-10 hrs of singles. So I will wind up paying $2-$3/hr vs. $1.50/hr for ogsm/poly. But I will only have to string 1/3 as often and my arm will feel much better. So for the sake of my arm, I may have to stick with gut/poly. In cold weather, gut/poly is a no brainer for me and my sore arm.

Gut poly is always the way to go if possible. You always have the factors though, like what kind of racquet are you using and what feel do you like? I discovered OGSM/poly because I went back to a softer stick with the yonex and wanted a crisp feel. I also was going through gut poly too fast, but when the humidity settles down that could change.

Doing the math for me I am spending $34 on a reel of OGSM and possibly as low as $45 if the pros pro SPPP copy delivers. So that is 33 string jobs in a setup that is less than $2.50 per.

I am thinking if it works as planned I will string up 2 sticks a week. That's 8 a month, which means I can get 4 months of string jobs out of 2 reels which equates to spending $19 a month on strings instead of over $70.

That's about as good as I am at math, but as long as my arm doesnt complain, I find this to be maybe the ultimate setup if you factor in everything.

If my arm had no issues with it, I'd be using ogsm/bhbr at 50/48. In fact that will be my backup stick to gut/poly.

latest update on OGSM16/Energy17: had about 1 hr on the string bed going into tonight. at about 1 hr and 40 mins in, 2 mains snapped. i got less than 3 hours out of this string bed. gotta say i liked the performance of this string bed better than OGSM/BHBR. spin was comparable, but control was better. i was able to generate some sick crosscourt angles on my forehand. however one of the drawbacks of energy is that it doesn't hold tension very well. about 20 mins before the mains broke, some shots started flying long. at the end of the day, tension stability didn't matter because the syn gut didn't last long anyways. comfort was an issue, too, as i can feel some pain in my wrist now. i don't think syn gut mains are going to work for me. the durability is just too poor as i'm snapping them every 2nd hitting session.

I'm done with ogsm/poly too, at least for now. As good as ogsm/bhbr feels and plays, it breaks in 3 hrs and it doesn't seem more arm friendly than some full polys. Every time I play with ogsm/bhbr I get elbow and shoulder pain. So I'm sticking with gut/poly for now, 1 with TonicBF/Qu4ttro and 1 with TonicBF/sppp. I'm really pleasantly surprised how well TonicBF BT7 plays at low tension with poly hybrid. And it's lasting longer than the original, non-BT7 gut.

agreed. in the PS85, it syn gut/poly setups i've tried so far feel about the same if not even less comfortable than a full bed of Iontec.

since we seem to be experiencing the same thing, maybe this will help. the following is quoted from someone who was recently unbanned. "there must be something wrong with your arms, you have very delicate joints, or you need some tennis lessons. Or you've strung it badly, or you've used the wrong gauge. Or more likely, all of the aforementioned." ;-)

I need some advice guys.

I've read through some posts here and still have the question:

I would be using Babolat Revenge in a hybrid with a multi, so:

Would I get more spin generation with Revenge mains/multi crosses?

OR

Would I get more spin generation with multi mains/Revenge crosses?

Is there a power and feel difference also?

Poly mains will always give more spin unless you are talking about pairing it with nat gut.
