Did you ask what else they had 'out back'?

Perhaps a brand new SV PS or new Prestige Pro 600...

No I didn't ask:)

But I'm going back there on Monday now! LOL:shock:

I doubt they will have anything else, it's a rubbish shop and I'm amazed it is still going to be honest. There are very very few tennis shops left in the UK I'm sad to say. It's these new online businesses causing the problem!

Interesting this pic is 16/18 (ps85) and 2002 Open pics I count 16/19 (90 in head) w/ the same paintjob -- so he switched in '02 to 90 sq in?
Yes, in the middle of 2002, he switched from the PS 6.0 85 to the PS Tour 90, both had the same red HPS 6.0 95 Tour paintjob over them. In addition to the string patterns, you can also tell from looking at the shape of the top pf the "V" in the throats, and also in the difference in the headsize.

If you look at the photos in Equijets thread which you posted at top of the page, you'll see I think the 90sqin paint job had 4 strings coming out of the PWS, so it seems to be very similar to K90!

Probably not exactly a K90, but at least a prototype of one?
Actually, just having 4 crosses is not proof that it's definitely a K90. He could have just had his PS Tour 90's specially drilled for him with 4 crosses at the PWS. I've seen pics of him using a PS Tour 90 (with the retail black paintjob) which had 4 crosses at the PWS. Hard to say for sure if that was actually a K90 or not.

I don't think it's definitely a K90, but likely to be some sort of custom racquet that became the K90!

Federer/Wilson were clearly experimenting with the new 90sqin frame at this time and he probably went through lots of different types of 90sqin frames until he liked what became the K90:)

Hmmm...strange. It's just a pic from Getty Images.

You can also check this other site on this page from the 2002 US Open: http://www.goroger.net/gallery.php?spgmGal=slam/usopen02#?

Especially check the pic near the lower right of the thumbnails (the one in which Federer is holding his racquet near the throat with his right hand). Click on that one as it blows up pretty large.

i know for a fact that the federer hps 6.0 was a ps85 with an hps paintjob. five yrs ago i held one with the fed signature in my hands. it belonged to a friend in MD who ran a pro shop. i offered $1000 for it with the advice that he should keep it; which he wisely did

Yes, we know. Read above.

First it was the PS 6.0 85 then later it was the PS Tour 90 but BOTH had the same red HPS 6.0 95 Tour paintjob.

Here's a pic from Equijet which show both Federer's PS 6.0 85 and PS Tour 90 with the same HPS 6.0 95 Tour paintjob alongside an actual retail HPS 6.0 95 Tour. So in this pic, we have an 85, a 90, and a 95, all with the same exact paintjob. :)

The middle racquet in this photo is not a PS Tour 90, the string pattern is wrong as I mentioned earlier!

It is likely to be a custom 90 frame that went on to be the K90!

Anyway this is all speculation really. Great photos of great racquets:)

I just thought that actually that middle frame could be a custom 90 frame that went on to be the PS Tour 90!

Either way we are ultimately just guessing, we don't actually know:)

What is clear though, is that he definitely used at least 3 versions of this paint job (85 x1 and 90x2), but not the 95 version!

My money is on that middle racquet to be a PS Tour 90 with a custom drill pattern. I don't think the K90 was finalized until after the retail PS Tour 90 was released in March 2003. That middle racquet was made for Federer, which he used in late 2002/early 2003. As seen in the pic above in post #23, he used a PS Tour 90 with the HPS 6.0 95 Tour paintjob but with the denser retail drill pattern at the 2002 US Open. :)

Here's that pic from the 2002 US Open again:

In 2003, after March, Federer has been seen using the PS Tour 90 with the retail black paintjob with both drill patterns.

Anyway I'm now off back to that tennis shop to see if they have anything else interesting (and importantly cheap):)

I have 4 of 'em in mint condition. They are the best feel and control racquet I have ever hit with. I only strung them up with VS Team Gut and the feel was incredible! As I got a bit older, I needed a bit more punch, so went to the Hyper ProStaff 6.1, then the N-Code 6.1, and now the Babolat Pure Drive. But with the Hyper PS 6. 0 95, you can put the ball on a dime!
4.0 Baseliner, Always VS Gut

Larry,
What tension(s) do you use? Do you string your racquets 1-piece or 2-piece?

Thanks.

You are obviously local:)

I havn't been to that shop for years, is that little tennis shop still there?

I'm in Crowthorne.

I haven't been to Henley for about 3 years but it was there then. Are you going to spill the beans about the shop you made your lucky purchase?

That racquet is VERY sensitive. I put a little[very little] extra weight at 9:00 & 3:00---plus a tad under the leather grip in the handle--so they were 12 pts headlight-- but plowed nicely through the ball---only used VS Team Gut(17g)--and depending upon the weather--in the spring[65 degrees Farenheit] strung 'em at 65#, in the HOT summer months @ 67#, again always with the VS Team Gut. Always strung 'em 2-piece. The most enjoyable and fun racquets I have ever hit with!

You sound like Doc talking to Marty in Back to the Future... have any plutonium in 'em?

It is the HPS Tour 95. There were a limited # made. -- made in Europe--but I can't remember where. Can anyone remember where they were made? I have a matched set of 4 that I got through TW. --still in like-new--cherry condition. I think the tolerances re. weight and balance of these racquets were as precise of any racquet I have ever heard of! Same paint job as the original HPS 6.1--but a matte finish. Mine have no chipping or paint problems as others have commented. Unbelievable feel!! They DID come with a Wilson leather grip. Federer used this stick for a short while. Flat beam -- solid frame! Very sensitive to small adjustments with lead tape. I always strung 'em 2-piece. I strung mine only with VS Team gut(17g) @ 65#-- and 67# in the hot summer months--with a very small amount of lead tape @ 3 & 9. --Plus a little lead under the grip to make 'em 12 pts. headlight. The racquet plows through the ball with great feel! Great all court racuqet! As I got older, I needed to bump up the pace on my serve and ground strokes so went to the HPS 6.1--then NCode 6.1--and finally to the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick [standard length] now. But for me, hands down--that HPS 6.0 is the most accurate and most enjoyable racquet I have ever hit with!
