Yonex frame chipping and cracking questions

Hi all.

I have been playing Yonex for a couple of years now.

One thing I noticed on my VCore 100 spin (the Wozniaki racket) was how the paint job chipped like crazy ( I mean, some of these chips were the size of a dime!) I am a decent doubles player and, like all doubles players, have to scrape out the occasional low volley at my feet. My RQIS tour 2's also had a little chipping problem, but not nearly as bad. I've had Babolats, Princes, Wilsons, Heads, etc., and never had this problem.

Has anybody else had this problem with this particular frame?

The bigger problem is that I seem to be having a frame breakage problem. (and no, I am not a racket thrower) First break was on a frame that I bought used (RQIS2 tour) after about a year of use. Figured that was just possible prior abuse, over use, etc.

2nd break really concerned me. Got the racket as a gift. (VCore 100 spin - new) I play about 2x a week, 2 hours of drills mostly... At my age, I can't be considered a hard hitter by anybody's standards and I string w/ poly at the middle of the recc. range. I am in a drill with my local teaching pro. High forehand, about 3 steps in from baseline. inside out swing. Hear a funny sound like, oops, snapped a string....look down...frame at the 4:00 position is snapped clear through (not on a string knot)....HUH?

After arguing with Yonex on the phone that I have no intention of looking up last years middle school team (who gave me the racket) and asking for a receipt, they grudgingly let me send it to them and they said they would replace it, subject to inspection for abuse. I should have known......"warranty replacement rejected, impact damage"........

I'm not a thrower, the break happened right in front of a USPTA pro, former NCAA All American, 2 lawyers, a college math professor, a CPA, and about 4 other witnesses. Impact damage, my Aunt Fanny... Ok, sorry, rant over.

IS this a known problem with Yonex frames?
Is Yonex famous for being bogus with warranty claims?
Have I just gotten that much stronger?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I have three Yonex rackets and also three other brands
and all of my rackets are equally chipped. I use and abuse them all
equally, and my Yonex rackets are not any more chipped than the others.
So based on my own personal experience, I can not verify your findings
about there being any problems with Yonex's paint and quality.

I have own quite a few yonex frames and few racquets are more durable then them. If you hav a genuine break during a hit get signatures of the people who saw it. And get your school club to and coach to aend and endorce it.

I have 9 Yonex racquets and each are very resistant to chipping but none are from this decade. In contrast, my Wilson BLX Tour 90 that I just bought this summer brand new has more chips on it already than my 9 Yonex racquets combined.

But OP, all your eye witness testimonies mean little if you had tossed your racquet prior to the incident. Frame damage is accumulative. Not saying you did, but sending out subpoenas will not be useful in either event.
Look at me I need Cialis by the barrel

the newer yonex models get paint chips easily, but it not like the racquets them selves break. you must be doing something out of the normal. I own a dozen plus yonex racquets dating ten years back, plus modern and none of the have ever broken. I put a lot of hours on them also.

I also play doubles and take low balls, get chips and scrapes. Never a break though. It could be possible that it had an impact which weakened it, then when you hit your shot it collapsed.

I have noticed this with my Ezone Xi 100. I play on soft artificial grass courts 99% of the time and have never set foot on a hard court in my life. I sometimes bump my rackets on the court, but I don't abuse my rackets (I occasionally tap them off the court in frustration, but not hard and always on the bumper). Anyway, I recently noticed two chips the size of my pinky nail on the left side of the racket just by the grommets. It wasn't just flaking, these were DEEP chips as if someone had tried to drive a screw into the racket. I really cannot understand how they got chipped, as the surface I play on wouldn't damage an egg if it was dropped on it. Maybe Yonex QC is going downhill? :(

I have to admit, my Ezone 100 broke pretty easily. I also was under the impression that the "Made in Japan" Yonex rackets were pretty robust, but I was surprised at how easily mine cracked.

It might just be a few run offs, or it might signal something else. A couple of posts on the interweeebs is not indicative of anything. I will still buy Yonex again, in fact I want the new ai100 :)

I have broken 2 yonex rackets, neither through throwing, etc.
I love yonex and still play with one, but I am getting a little sick of this.
