Jim Courier won the Australian Open and the French Open in 1992. What was the name of the qualifier who shockingly defeated Courier in the third round of 1992 Wimbledon to end Courier's 25 match winning streak and his hopes of achieving the Grand Slam?

Oh yes, a truly great thread.

Should definitely be revived with some verve post Wimbledon when we're all more bored.

Heck, this thread should just be going non stop.

I'm afraid I cheated and googled. It was Andrei Olhovskiy, a 30 year old Russian who had only once before made the 4th round of a Grand Slam (at 1988 Wimbledon).

Nadal just passed 700 wins and is 11th all time. What player has the most wins (and is the only player in the top 23 in career wins) WITHOUT a slam title?

How many times has Nadal lost a grand slam match after winning the first set? Which grand slam tournaments and to whom did he lose those matches?

The third one does not count as a loss...Rafael Nadal.

The second one I have tried to obliterate from my memory...takes up too much space on the hard drive.

Keeping the Wimby champion defeat theme:

What player ended Rod Laver's reign as Wimby champion in '70 (also in 4R)?

Alright, I'll post a trivia question. Who won Wimbledon (and almost completed a grand slam that year) by defeating Ken Rosewall 6–2, 4–6, 7–5, 6–4?

Which player ended Richard Krajicek's Wimbledon title defence at the fourth round stage in 1997?

That was the perennial home favourite, Tim Henman. Tim then went on to lose to the 1991 Wimbledon champion, Michael Stich in the quarter-final!

Name the seven players to defeat Nadal @SW19???

trick question...get digging there!

I can only think of 6:

1. Childs (a Brit WC) in 2003 (his 1st appearance).*

2. Muller in 2005

3. Federer in 2006 & 2007

4. Djokovic in 2011

5. Rosol in 2012

6. Darcis in 2013

* Edit. It was actually to Srichaphan in the 3rd round.

He didn't play 2004 and 2009 and won in 2008 and 2010.

So who can I have missed?

Dig deeper! I warned u it's a trick question!

Your #1 answer is wrong BTW. Childs lost to him 2R.

Lamine Ouahab, if I remember rightly. He beat Rafael Nadal in the semi finals of 2002 Junior Wimbledon. That was one of the very few junior tournaments that Nadal ever played.

I never thought Nadal ever played the Juniors so I never thought of that!

Yes! And he is still active @ #326 (142 points). Ouahab lost in the finals to Aussie Todd Reid, a player I did work for on the Futures tour before injuries felled him.

What player has reached the most Grand Slam 4th Rounds without ever reaching a Grand Slam quarterfinal? Note: I do not know the answer.

I know that Tommy Robredo has reached 7 Grand Slam quarterfinals but never a semifinal.

I'm not sure. Was it Jeremy Bates? Bates twice got to the Wimbledon Round of 16 (1992 and 1994), losing both times to Guy Forget. In the 1992 match, Bates led 2 sets to 1 and had a match point, and somebody sneezed loudly on the match point. Forget came back and won.

Interesting question, I'd love to know the answer!

I believe Robredo jointly holds that "most QFs without an SF" record with a pre-Open Era British player called Bobby Wilson.

The "most SFs without a F" record is also held by a British man of course - Tim Henman, with 6.

I haven't come across any that lost 5 4th rounds, but these players all lost 4:

John Fitzgerald
Christo Van Rensburg
Arnaud Boetsch
Francisco Clavet
Wayne Arthurs

Boetsch had the highest career ranking of those players(12), and was the only one of the players to lose a 4th round at each of the 4 majors.
