My early diagnosis on UNC this year—very solid team, had championship potential, but Jessie Aney lost her mojo completely and in tough matches couldn't get it done, and despite some flashes of brilliance and a big win in the ACC title game, Alle Sanford didn't live up to the hype in year one and was particularly bad under pressure. Good as you may be in other areas, you can't start a big match at an 0-2 deficit and hope to win many. They pulled it off against Duke in the ACC championship, barely, but any slip-ups and it's all over. And you're never going to have 0 slip-ups over the course of four matches in the NCAAT. It makes the doubles point imperative, but even then you're in a tight spot. Today, Graham and Oullette-Pizer lost the big points, especially in the second set, and rock-solid play from Daav and Jones, which they've displayed all year, didn't matter.
A shame. But everyone's coming back, and hopefully things will be more steady next year.
