If Medvedev serves like he did against Djokovic, Medvedev in 2 or 3.

If Nadal gets back many returns or Medvedev doesn't serve as well, Nadal in 3.

Is this other thread deleted ? Weird.

It looks like this match will be on 2 pm local time on Saturday despite the fact that Medvedev-Schwartzmann will play on 8 pm on Friday. I know it is a dead rubber but absurd scheduling.

I actually think this is one of the few cases where Rafa does better on return than Novak. Novak goes for more aggressive returns on 2nd serves. Medvedev is very unpredictable on 2nd serve (on purpose, not on accident like Zverev) and it made Novak mishit.

Rafa hits the 2nd serve return with more margin for error, so isn’t bothered quite as much by Medvedev’s variation in 2nd serves.

Medvedev will earn $306,000 for playing and beating Diego Schwartzman.
Diego likewise will earn the same for beating Medvedev.
I believe that's pretty good financial incentive for players to put the effort into winning round robin matches (even when one is already qualified for the semifinals as Medvedev is).

The prize money is a lot lower than last year.

These guy are already rich enough that they probably don't care about that money. Medvedev's wikipedia page says he's made over $12 million in prize money and that's not counting endorsements and sponsorships.

Also you have to look at it from a bigger perspective - he might make 300k for that win, but he stands to win more if he's fresh for the Nadal match and possible final after.

What happened to the other match thread? o_O

Well whatever, i'll say the same. I think Medvedev has looked more in form but i don't think he will win in straights so i'm going with sheet in 3.

Illogical scheduling if they needed to do this then zverev/djokovic should have played 2nd on friday

Medvedev was in better form last year and still lost to Nadal who wasn't playing well....
And even though Medvedev pushed Nadal to 5 sets at last year's US Open, Nadal won the first 2 sets so it'd be straight sets victory in best-of-3.
Also Nadal beat Medvedev 63 60 in the Final of Canada 2019.
Medvedev's best form has not been enough....

Absurd, considering his 0% win rate against Nadal.
ага нет ничего важнее на этом белом свете чем 2-0 или 3-0 в личных встречах при выборе кэфа, да здравствует! 3-0:laughing:непоколебимая, несокрушимая сила!

Mad Lad is playing really well.
I wouldn't be surprised if he won in straights.
Hopefully lightning strikes twice and Nadal wins.
