While some of your stuff is a little biased, I agree perfectly with the part quoted above. I think it was insensitive given that Roddick had just faced the toughest loss of his career. However I am hoping that Fed was more understanding of the situation, and perhaps he made a mistake while expressing himself.

Thanks for posting that article. It was a pleasure for me to read -- well written, well argued, clever (and subtle) use of irony and satire to make the author's points and to take some digs at the hysterical reactions of so many at the jacket and Fed's interview remarks.


I would bet a lot of money that neither Roddick nor Fed have given much thought at all to any of this. Why? Because they're too busy living the lives that others judge and write about and debate about and fret about and fight about and throw feckless, deliberately-provocative comments about into threads like this and ... and ...

Isn't that the big difference? People who live their life; and people who live focused on all manner of things other than their life. People who live life large; people who live life small.

Nad-****s would have us believe that the 2-5 in slam finals is *decisive* when it comes to Fed's GOAT-hood. But they are just leading people down the garden path to idiocy. That H2H ONLY comes into play if Nadal equals Fed's slam haul WAY down the road. Otherwise, it's 100% irrelevant except to their next matchup!

Not at all. You guys make threads about Fed constantly, so I just read and give my opinion. I wouldn't mind it if all the threads were about Rafa but that's hard to imagine when the guy is currently out of the tour!

It happens to be a time where Roger gets a lot of threads. There was a time that Rafa got many threads too. Things change. But what I've noticed is in every Fed thread, no matter the topic, your post is negative. It's like you're there for that. You are full of double standards and you know it. You act as if Rafa is god and Roger is garbage, and you don't even deny it.

Yes, Rog isn't perfect, I've said it many times. But neither is Rafa - they're human beings, so naturally they're not perfect. They're angry and bitter when they lose, they're sometimes arrogant when they win. it's perfectly understandable really, but you justifying everything Rafa does and in the same time bash Federer for the same things, that's just hypocirsy.

It's funny, isn't it -- well, not really funny... pathetic, actually -- that people spend their days spewing hate and accusations and cheap shots and other nasty, nasty slime on these forums. One can only hope that it's doing them some good, giving voice to the chaos and profound self-loathing in their minds. Unfortunately, research shows that giving voice often reinforces the negativity and depression, making it a cycle that only gets worse, to where it's almost impossible to escape.

So, yes, mandy, it's worth fighting this nihilism. Call them on their garbage. But only as long as you can stay healthy.

That's what he was talking about when he said, I know how you feel." People exaggerate everything and I'm sure roddick is not losing sleep over that comment and probably has no problems with roger at all because of that one comment.

You are aware that pretty much every player who loses a heartbreaking match goes into the locker room and cries their eyes out, right? But tennis is cruel in that it makes the runner up stick around and speak to the crowd minutes afterwards.

Federer does not represent tennis. I realize that he does for you, he doesn't for me in any way and that's my right (according to the first amendment of the US constitution at least!)

I agree, no one can tell you or me that we don't love tennis simply because we don't like a certain player (Federer in your case, Nadal in mine). The First Amendment, however, does not apply to people berating each other on message boards. It restricts the government from infringing on freedom of speech. A dumb Fed-fan does not equal the government of the US.
