Just saw this when espn zoomed in pre match!!
Watching Rafa's match against Tomic right now. They just showed a closr up of his shoes. He's wearing Ballistec 4.3s in the new Lunar colorway.
Just like when the CB 1.3 first came out....Rafa famously wore Air Max Cages PJ'd in the CB1.3 black / lime colors for the Aussie Open that year.
From "Tennis Street" facebook page :
Also, they just zoomed in on the shoes again, and you can see the crimson paint on the midsole peeling/chipping off showing black under the paint.
See it on the inside of the heel......
I guess the lack of ventilation from the LB is too much in 42c heat & possible 5 set matches.
^ Yes, I suspected that as well. A very reasonable explanation.
HOLY COW, Nadal's version has Special looking AIR cushioning. MUST be NEW tech. I want THAT one not the new one NIKE is advertising. When will this one be released ?
listen to the genius. that lunarlite cushioning is not as good as air cushioning. it is too thin and Nadal's knees just cannot handle thin cushioning. his knee requires super thick cushioning.
haha! Rafa doing a Lebron!
He's used custom shoes for many years (no inner bubble on his CB1.3-4.3, modified tongue, different sole pattern and stitched heel cup)
He's being sarcastic my friend.
How do you PJ that shoe CB 4.3 so fast like that ??? it is PJ like all red like lunars. can they do it that fast per request of nadal ? Flying it in alone could take days..........
Ah, gotcha- thanks t=for the heads up. It's tough to keep up with the 6,000+ post members, they have their own language and inside "jokes."
Nike is responsibility to make their players happy
So its not that hard to explain Nike has a plan b for in case Nadal doesnt like the LB right?
LOL! I had a feeling this thread was going to blow up once Rafa stepped on court with his LB "fakes"!
well you guys can laugh all you want but if u didnt try them on personally i wouldnt say a thing.
Today i bought a pair in my local shop and i have only 1 thing to say : DAMN YOU NIKE for making such nice shoes!
they are like a child of the CB4.3 and Vapor 9 that inherited only the good stuff.
they are very comfortable right from the box, almost as light as the Vapors and much lower to the ground than the CB4.3 yet they offer much better stability and support then the Vapor 9 . The toe area is a lot wider so ur toes dont cramp up but they still manage to wrap around you foot so your foot doesnt slide in them.
its true you need to downsize compared to the CB4.3 (i wear 45EU on my CB4.3 but had to buy 44EU on the new LB).
when it comes to cushioning i find they do the job just fine. i played with them for 2h today and my feet didnt get tired and i didnt feel any pain in my right knee (i tend to get a little ache in my right knee if i play with badly cushioned shoes).
cant really say anything about the durability cause i played only 2h with them and i mainly play on clay so the shoes dont really wear out that quick but just looking at them you can see they are more durable then the vapor 9.
oh and one more thing: they do wrinkle a bit in the toe area so if you dont like your shoes to wrinkle they arent really for you.
overall i think nike really did a good job with these shoes and ill be prolly switching from the cb4.3 to the new LBs.
Possibly nike already made CB version and probably it will take two days. One day to make (I think Chinese makes his shoes nowadays) and one day to ship (about 10hr flight distance so one day is enough time to deliver his shoes).
Guess his day shoes will look like the Olympic 4.3's then? Guess he never got a chance to wear them anyway...
No, more than likely he's HAD them. Nike's ELITE athlete doesn't come unprepared. My comment on Rafa doing a Lebron, is Lebron has issues with his current shoe and swaps out either the following quarter or halftime, to his previous model with a unreleased PE colorway.
Kaosabir- I don't think anyone is disputing it's comfort. I think we were just sticker shocked. However, it's a great excuse to NOT buy them because Rafa isn't wearing them or it's not the same version. I'm a big shoe head plus a Rafa *****, so I'll eventually get them
you wont be dissapointed. im still amazed how good they turned out to be, tbh i think nike new they were really good shoes thats why they amped the price up(bs move imo)
Anyone who has purchased these shoes, did you go a half size down? I've read some reviews that have said the toe box was wider and longer, and they had to go a half size down.
They did run a LITTLE big, but after awhile I got used to it
Not big enough that you had to size down...like the AMC for example.
You mean pulling a Federer? Circa 2010-2012 Vapor VI Paintjobs
I went half size down without any doubt after I tried them on.
Rafa's already trying on his colorway for Roland Garros during a practice session. It still looks like his same custom red Lunar Ballistecs.
i had to go down a full size. i wear 45EU CB4.3 and had to go down to 44EU on the LB. even when i put them side by side the 44 LB are the same length as the 45 CB.
Thanks for the advice guys...put in my order a half size down today.
He's going back and forth between shoes!!!!
More detailed write-up here: http://tenniscuriosity.blogspot.com/
He probably knew he wasn't going to like them and requested a few pairs before the tournament.
After receiving my LBs today, and going out and hitting for a couple hours with them, I wonder if Rafa isn't wearing them because of the extreme heat in Australia right now. I really like the shoes, but the lack of ventilation compared to the Cb 4.3's and the vapors could be a problem. They were fine for me today (50 degrees), but I dread wearing them in the Texas heat this summer. My feet might melt.
So far the only two things I've figured out are they are long narrow suckers. Went down in size from usual 10.5 -11 to 10's in these and the Fly Wire is a waste of time. Woulda been a better shoe without it. It's snug enuff and woulda looked better/cleaner.
Nike shoes are all about gimmicks and flash. Performance is secondary.
Tried a pair on today and they were just too long. Decent width, comfort and support but about 10mm longer than an equivalent size shoe. Bizarre- disappointed
Those blue and gold ones are great. Hope I like these as much as I like my Ballistec 4.3s.
oh nice. the gold ones are the best imo but the blue gold are not too shaby either
That pink one looks like a girls shoes and pretty bad taste with the swoosh placement and size.
Definitely getting the Gold ones
I really like the White with the Silver Lunarlon cushioning and Volt accents. Nike should put more effort into incorporating Volt into their future colorways.
Gotta disagree. I've personally seen too much Volt those few last years. :???: Not that I don't like it, but it's like they've got nothing else. Even the last CBs were Volt, and earlier this year Berdych was using a Volt pair of V9s. Volt can wait for a year, it'll be fine.
Happy to see that neither of my local South Florida tennis stores had the indecency to charge $165. One store had them for $130 and another one 119.99.
Nice. Maybe they will go on sale for that price when they get reduced.
Is it me or was Nadal using this color code in the CB 4.3 version in the match with Kei? ( Haven't seen the other games at the AO ).
Later Edit: Wasn't imagining it!
I like the blue ones
All you guys that liked the Vapor 6......get the Lunar Ballistecs. You will LOVE them. Out of the box, they feel like Vapor 6's that are already broken in. The upper composition is quite similar to the Vapor 6, but less stiff.
It is the OLD court ballistec 4.3
LOL,LOL... NO way. it is the OLD court Ballistec 4.3. you can see the air cushioning on the heel. but I do LOVE the new colorway. hope they release back the 4.3 with this Colors.....I would buy it and more.
Don't like white shoes, but these are pretty sharp in white.
another view of his LB's during a training session
