Hey guys, Welcome to the Yonex Club! The only thing I ask is please be respectful of others and the brands they may use. This club is strictly for educating the masses of the experiences we have had with our Yonex Racquets. I am happy to be the Prez of such a fine group, and I'm sure V.P. jcstennis feels the same.

I am a very happy Yonex user. I have started with V-Con 17 (sold it), now have RDX500 Mids, NS RQ 7, MP Tour 5 and Ti-80s.

I do like Ti-80s the most now, - my weapon of choice. Yes it may feel a bit "tinny" for some, but I do enjoy the feel and the feedback they give me, very good controllable power, accuracy, lotsa spin. Nice volleying sticks. They do swing lighter for me than RDX500.

MP Tour 5s, as it has been noted here before are wonderful serving racquets, but I do have less control with them from the baseline and volleying is not that great.

RDX500 Mid is a wonderful racquet, - great control from the baseline, sniper accuracy. But for some reason I can't serve with it as good as with ti80 or MPT 5... It also gets a bit too demanding for me during the longer matches, I am quickly approaching 40 mark, - just 1 month to go... ;)

Haha yeah, that is pretty smart. Jon is in Singapore I believe, I was emailing him like 2 days ago about getting me some SPPP haha but, I decided to get some Kirschbaum Super Smash instead.

You mean separate threads for the Yonex? Lol.. That would be too crazy.

Well RAFA.. That is when personal preference comes in. I haven't tried Yonex before but, I don't think I really need to try it. Why? Because Dunlop is doing great for me :).. I love Dunlop.

Well you are more than welcome here anytime! And yes, if the racquet you have works for you... if it ain't broke, you know the rest. But when you are demoing the new Aerogels... and i know you will be... pick up a Yonex, give it a shot... that's how i found out about the MF3.

besides being better at everything (which i agree, never liked the babs i demoed)... what do you like the most? what part of your game have you seen most improvement....

By the way, welcome to the club!
We gotta make sure jd gets you on the list!

Hmmm, well actually everything. But probably the most improved is... ummm... maybe the serve, or the groundies.

I don't know, EVERYTHING is better now.

Do any of you other yonex users by any chance have an old RDX 500 MP you are willing to sell to me. I broke one of mine and having only 1 racquet is really rough.

tony if you post in the wanted classifieds, i'm sure someone will respond. There are a few out there, i know i was looking a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, it is nice to see this Club grow. Hopefully, all of us can provide good, sound information about Yonex racquets... and the experiences we have had.

There have been and are some very useful threads on the boards for other brands of racquets... we invite those who have participated, your insight and knowledge will further strengthen our community.

V.P., i like the ring of that;)

I really need to tell YONEX that they should make the RQS-11 little bit stiffer like stiffness index of 68 or so, right now it is 65 i believe, with same exact specs on everything else. Can this be done?? Please Yonex please do this....

RBF...What is it you like most about that stick? i have never tried it and you sound pretty convincing in an earlier post.

Nice write up! Interesting info. How do you have tour 500 mid strung? Actually, can you share your set-up(s) of your Yonex weaponry?

Almost like love at first sight... wait no... ummm, like dumping an "ok" girlfriend and then "wow" walks in the door. "Everything is better" about her. ;)

When i got my RDX the first thing i was in love with were the ground strokes... i was like "wow". It was a great and convincing and reasuring feeling.

Am playing with the RDS 001 MID right now. Am going to give it 6 months and reassess at that point. Why? Darn those Dunlops are coming out and having been an early muscleweave 200g user and 300g and hotmelt (but not mFil) I may have to go back to Dunlop.

And I can only grow with a MID and then see if my match results bear up. Am I winning or losing and why?

I aslo have the 001MP. I'm stuch between the 98 and the 90. The 98 is fantastic for groundies. The 90 brilliant for serves. But not vice-versa. I think I need a 95 again to get the best of both worlds.

I find using a MID strange. Sometimes shots come off so powerfully ity seems like I barely moved the racquet. And then sometimes they only just creep over the net. I have too much variation in my game to produce consistent results so far. You have to be a bit mechanical with a MID. I'm close but not there yet. Will keep training.

But I am totally impressed by the seriously good Yonex racquets. They are beautifully made. Their unique head shape is surely what sets them apart. The sweet spot is huge. If I had known earlier...

Had to order it in at my tennis shop: just so you know the Hewitt influence doesn't extend right throughout Australia!

rdx 500 user here...

So please count me in, I'm very very impressed with the rdx, huge huge sweetspot, great feel, only 90 sq in but I feel like im playing with a midplus, can handle very heavy balls very well, i love my backhand with this.

Plays just like a Super RD Tour but with less pop.

What i really wanna try now is a Yonex Super RD tour 90 but sadly they're not being made anymore.

what exactly means the words on the RDS 001 review by TW, "pleasingly crisp" and "buttery soft fell" I cant demo RDS yet, but I am very curious to compare with RDX 500 MP that I am testing this week.

After an extensive test of the Yonex RDS 001 Mid and Midplus tennis racquets, we came to the conclusion that these racquets are indeed pleasingly crisp.
While the direct predecessor to the RDS racquets, the RDX line, offered a buttery soft feel, the RDS racquets firm up the hitting experience.

It is very hard to put into words, but the racquet has a "crisp" feel when the ball is hit (especially on forehands) I tend to experience the "buttery" feel on volleys. The ball seems to sink in the strings, allowing you a split second to place it where you want. It really is a pleasant racquet overall. You will need to try it for yourself to really understand the words...."crisp" & "buttery".

What yonex bags are you all using, if you are using one at all that is?

hmm...the best way to describe crisp is that you don't feel the ball on the strings - you get like a solid feel of the ball on the strings for a second and then you hear that crisp sound of a cleanly hit ball.

as for the buttery feeling, you feel the ball on the strings more - it's like you are holding the ball - very soft feeling, but you don't really get the nice sound.

it's all a matter of preference.

one question:

a certain yonex bag is always being sold out - that one six pack bag - ppl are buying it but no one is leaving any comments on it.

for those ppl who are using it, what do you think about it?

(oh yeah - i'm using that gray yonex 3 pack. that thing is deceptive - it holds a lot of stuff in that non-racquet packet.)

RBF...What is it you like most about that stick? i have never tried it and you sound pretty convincing in an earlier post.

It is really easy to swing, but it is extremely stable even against extreme heavey topspin shots, usually the low swingweight frames get in trouble against heavy shots but not so here. And it is a great serving frame, pinpoint accuracy with power and spin, can make bigtime topspin serves with it. Also excellent volleying frame that any doubles player would be proud to have. One other thing i noticed was you can half volley the ball from the baseline like Federer does and hit great shots or winners with this. What else can you ask for???

I thought about getting the Nike bag, but wasn't to keen on the looks. Currently got the yonex tour bag and the backpack.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not a big fan of Nike, but it holds a ton. When I bought it I didn't play with Yonex. I was going through my "I want to look cool phase" Now I am going through my "just give me something I can play" phase.

I am curious in what string setup everyone plays. I use Babolat Tonic Natural Gut @ 60lbs. I am considering trying some Hybrid combos.
What do you all use?

I play with VS gut in the mains at 56 and SPPP in the crosses at 54 for my main racket.

My other RDS has a full Tonic Natural gut in at 57lbs, wanted to try a full gut string job with VS gut but couldn't afford it.

Thinking about trying a different hybrid combo in my next RDS, which is coming in two weeks.

WOW!!! Just thought I would tell you guys. I put a Vantage Leather Grip on my RDS last night, and just got back from hitting with it.........man it feels great!!! You can really feel the ball better. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Plus it gives it an "old school" meets "new school" look.

I put a Gamma Hi Tech on my RDS 001 and it feels great too. The Gamma Hi tech is very firm (close to leather) and durable. The stock Yonex grip does suck I have to admit.

jdeloach, yes it does give a more a bit more pop, am thinkiing about going with a different combo as the RDS already has quite alot of pop.

I put a vantage grip on mine with a wilson pro overgrip on top and the feeling is awsome, so much better than the regular grips.

Thanks hugh! Vantage really knows how to make a leather grip. I have tried Babolat & Wilson in the past, and they just don't feel as nice as the Vantage. I ordered some Yonex overgrips to try over the leather. I'll let you know how that feels.

hey guys I am a Wilson nSix-One 95 user, and turned to the rds 001 for a bigger sweet spot and a more forgiving stick. well the rds 001 has a bigger sweet spot but the sweet spot just isn’t as sweet. to me it feels like it has no pop at all. I love the spin that I can get, especially on serve but i just keep going back to the Wilson. do you guys think that I would get the pop and feel that i want out of the mid rather than the midplus that i have? Also is the sweet spot in the mid around the same size as the one found in the nSix-One 95 b/c everyone keeps saying that it plays bigger than a 90...well how much bigger dose it play?

I believe you would get closer to the feel that you are used to with the Mid. I went from a nSix-One 90 to the RDS001 MP and have found great POP that I never experienced with my Wilson. One thing you might consider, try putting a little lead tape at 3 & 9 o'clock. It will make the racquet heavier, and probably feel more like the Wilson.

I have played mainly singles since I've used my RDX 500 MP, since I got them right at the end of the highschool tennis season. I will be playing doubles and volleys are probably on the only downfall of the RDX 500 MP, not bad, but not anything special. Does the higher stiffness of the RDS 001 MP help with volleys?

RDS 001 is far better in volleying than RDX 500, great control and power on deep volley as well as angle volleys. It is becoming a favorite of many doubles players for this reason..

... Does the higher stiffness of the RDS 001 MP help with volleys?

Absolutely! That is one reason I chose the RDS over the RDX. I like to serve and volley on occasion. I will use my wife's RDX sometimes on the baseline, but I feel that I can place the ball anywhere I want volleying with my RDS.

Tony, one thing you also might consider is adding some lead to make the racquet play heavier. I found that doing this with racquets in the past, I was able to volley better.

I actually have leaded my RDX 500 MP up some, all of it in the throat though. Since I broke one of my RDX 500's and only have 1 I guess I'll get an RDS 001 MP and then I will decide which one I want to keep. I have a feeling the RDS 001 will be better for my game.
