Hi,
Anyone know if the blx 95 16x18 grommets will fit in a Pro Staff Classic? I think they will but hoping for first hand info.
Yes referring to the 6.1, I actually use the 4.2 but same mold. I also posted in TW questions section but no luck yet.
Pro Staff Classic is 16x19.
BLX is 16x18.

+1... I've installed BLX set on a PSC before.

Just installed one today. Use Wilson Grommets set labeled 6.1 95 BLX2 B&G stock #WRG710500 on a Wilson Prostaff Classic 6.1 95.

True and they won't work
EDIT: But it is the 6.1 ProStaff that is 16x19
Well you're right about that. The OP is looking for 16x18 grommets and 16x19 grommets won't work.

OK order a Wilson ProStaff 95 grommet and see what you get. If it were me I would order a Wilson six.one 95 because they don't make the classic grommets any more and I thought you were looking for a replacement that was compatible.

ah. Or i can sand off the grommet it self a little bit to get them in , what you think?? And also WRG710800 grommets also "look" the same.. have you every experimented on that?I installed the WRG710500 grommets into my Pro Staff Classic. The grommet strips don't have to be modified, but you will need a grommet grinder to enlarge a few holes on the frame in order to get them in.
No problem, Chet. I don't think that sanding the grommets will work; you're more likely to damage them than get them to fit. I have not tried the WRG710800 grommets.ah. thanks for the quick response brother.. Much Much Apreciate it.
ok. so whats the secret to expand the holes in the frame ? you used drill bit or any other special tool ?No problem, Chet. I don't think that sanding the grommets will work; you're more likely to damage them than get them to fit. I have not tried the WRG710800 grommets.
No secret, just use a grommet grinder to carefully enlarge the hole until you can get the grommet to fit. If you don't have access to one, I'd recommend just bringing your racquet to a shop.ok. so whats the secret to expand the holes in the frame ? you used drill bit or any other special tool ?

I don't recall exactly, but I think it was 6-8 holes around 2, 5, 7 and 10 o'clock.Cool, i just ordered a set of grommet and needle file tool to expand the holes in the frame.. Lets see how it pans out. About how many holes needed to be expanded do you remember ? are they on the top or side area ?
Thanks.
Why do people come here to talk such nonsense? The pro staff classic 6.1 is 16x18 . 6.1 was added to the name later but it is absurd that nearly 30 years later people are still conflating classic to mean a frame related to the ps85 (correct term is original or 6.0).True and they won't work

I have some pro staff classics and the blx 6.1 grommets fit fine. The only thing you have to make sure is they don't give you grommets for a later generation 6.1 with "parallel drilling"
ok that's fine.. I will watch for those specific holes.I don't recall exactly, but I think it was 6-8 holes around 2, 5, 7 and 10 o'clock.
reHi Penguin,
Do you have the part number/stock number by any chance ? and I what do you mean by "parellel drilling " ? Does it mean that when you lay ALL the grommet in a straight light, the holes are all looking up 90 degrees to the ceiling ?
this guy in Georgia wanted 50 buks for each grommets (the original part) !!!!
Penguin, aren't they still sold new? I got some new about a year ago but I don't think I have the part number. as long as they are for blx you are fine I think.
re
If it does fit it would have to be the 6.1 and not the ProStaff. Call TW and ask they'll probably know.
Penguin,
are you referring if the racquet are sold as new or the grommets ??
the ps classic 6.1 that i have are over 20 years old and the grommets are not made anymore for this racquet (original part number Z7126 ) ... but only grommet which supposedly fits is WRG710500 with little bit of modification i.e. few hole expansion on the frame since the grommets are slightly bigger. At least that is what i found out from Taddavis's post.; which I am confident that he knows what he is talking about. i will be getting the WRG710500 today along with needle size filing tool.. so I will post some pictures after all said and done.
the grommets, as the psc6.1 16x18 has obviously been discontinued for decades
Thx Gino,nCode ones will work
TadDavis - Big Big Big Thank you for assisting me on this so called 'project' .. WRG710500 fits PERFECTLY!!!! I just finished installing this on the Pro Staff Classic 6.1 - mid plus 95 sq in. racquet. I was afraid to use the needle file to enlarge the holes in the frame itself, so instead, I just used 800 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded Holes # 5 and #9 from the center, on the head grommet and Hole #6 and #8 from the side grommet (counting from the bottom to top). It was tedious but I took my time so that the grommets didnt get damaged I also put little bit of oil on these and it slided as normal grommet with a snug fit... No problem, Chet. Glad it worked for you. Sandpaper is a great idea if you don't have a set of grommet grinders.TadDavis - Big Big Big Thank you for assisting me on this so called 'project' ..
