Question for Flash9

You mentioned you recently upgraded from the Alpha Revo 4000 and Wise to a Babolat Star 5 (the best of the best).

Was interested in your overall impression of the Star 5, and if you noticed any difference in the final product (string tension, racket playability, etc...) I read where the star 5 now has a smart sensor system, which helps with tensioning.

Since you owned and used both, should be interesting reading! I have only used the Star 5 once, and liked the tension bar, much easier than a foot pedal.

Answers for now.

Yes - the Star 5 uses the Smart Sensor System, which basically automatically calculates the type of string and sets the pull speed.

We received the Star 5 last Thursday and I unboxed it and tested the tension so that my wife could begin the stringing the racquets we had promised to players for the weekend (three of the five frames). She did those frames while I went off to play a match. We then went out of town for the weekend after getting a great deal on tickets to the Biltmore in Asheville, NC, and did not string any racquets over the weekend. So, I personally have not used the Star 5 yet. :( My wife’s assessment after just a few frames is that it is quicker to mount, pulls tension more quickly, and quietly then the REVO4K and WISE combination. The string bed stiffness is right in line with previous racquets we have done for these customers, which is good. :D As for the lack of the foot pedal, I was the one who used it with the WISE, where as my wife did not use it much. So, for her the touch sensor right behind the linear gripper is much better then the touch pad on the WISE. I’ll report if I miss the foot pedal when I finally get around to stringing, which could be a week or more due to work. :-(

Note: I will be putting my Alpha REVO4K and WISE 2086 up For Sale, in a week or two. There are some pictures on the Tennis Stringer Forum site, but I want to take some pictures of exactly what I am selling, only this weekend our digital camera died, so until the new one arrives it will just have to wait!
