Have business meetings March 21 in Switzerland, flying out March 16;)
Will post pictures (from the Gstaad area).

If the snow is bad down low, remember that Glacier 3000 is just around the corner. I think the lift passes for Gstaad cover the glacier, but you'll have to do a short bus ride to get there.

I've skied that glacier while staying in Les Diablerets. It's usually got good snow and very few people on it.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like 45 lifts are open, so, should be OK. Nevertheless, I will try to get to the top.

Stopped by Cataloochee in western NC for a few jumps on the way home. Only 3 runs open. 50°. The ski industry in the Southeast has been demolished this year by warm weather

How was the snow at lower elevations? Did you get any good skiing in Gstaad itself?
Gstaad was hot, literally. It was in the mid/upper 50s (12-15C) and no snow in the city (the surrounding hills with no slopes had no snow). The lower elevations had snow on the slopes and first day we spent there totally soaked because it was pouring rain below 1600m that turned into mix/snow above. So, take the gondola up to the top (2000m) and it is snowing, a third of the way down turns into rain. Never been that soaked on the mountain.
Second day, it cleared up and we decided to go to G3000 and it was absolutely awesome.

There still might be few Whistler trips this spring, but that's it on Cypress Mountain, for the season. It was a spectacular one!
Cheers!

Things are looking good for my trip to Tignes next week. They've already got a decent base, and they've got heavy snow forecasted this weekend.

Looks like I might be in for some of this

We have basically nothing in Salt Lake and a high pressure system in place means nothing for the next week at least.

I decided to get a pass this year, so I was up yesterday, even though there were only 5 runs open with mostly machine made snow. Good time to practice my turns. Might go up again today for a few hours. House to lift is only about 45 minutes for me.

Is upper side lake frozen and covered with snow while lower side lake still not frozen?
It is so beautiful, reminding me Lake Tahoe.

It's actually not a lake, but ocean!
The upper pic shows English Bay and University of British Columbia peninsula and the Straight of Georgia beyond. It's covered by a very low layer of clouds/fog!
The lower pic shows the Howe Sound, that extends all the way to Squamish, half way to Whistler.
Coastal mountains and Vancouver are incredibly beautifull...

It just keeps snowing in the Alps. Here in Tignes, it was non-stop from Saturday night to Monday night, had some flurries again last night, and it's going again now.

It's actually too much, as there have been a lot of lift closures due to the avalanche danger. But when the sun has come out the last two mornings, it's been hero snow everywhere.

So at the end of the week, I had three fantastic days and three days of widespread lift closures and limited visibility.

Those three good days were pretty fun I have to say. It was hero snow everywhere.

Conditions are looking good all across the Alps, so I'm looking forward to my two upcoming trips.

Basically quit skiing in 1988 when I was a teen (I grew up in a ski resort) and spent two afternoons on the snow in the past week. Nice, peaceful action and no opponent across the net. Will ski again though it's ****ing expensive. Maybe I'll switch to ski-touring.

Beautiful photos. I lived in Vancouver from '95 to '00. Lived in Coquitlam. I didn't snowboard at the time, just played tennis, was a junior playing competitively so no time for anything else really. Then we moved back to Ontario. Living outside of Canada now.
Those photos bring me back. Beautiful place, expensive as hell but beautiful. Wanna go back there, maybe move there again one day and ride Grouse and Cypress. Thanks for sharing those, keep them coming.

Ha, neighbour! I live in northern Coquitlam, towards Westwood Plateau.

Have you trained at the "Peoples Courts" / "Global Tennis Academy" with Dimitri? That's in Coquitlam...

Cypress has grown huge since your days. Give me shout when here, I'll show you around the mountain.

I played sometimes at People's Courts in the winter when it first opened in the mid 90's, well before Global Tennis Academy moved there. Horrible courts, uneven, there's a water reservoir underneath that's why its like that. Played at Burnaby Tennis Club sometimes as well, mainly in the winter also. The courts I enjoyed the most were Coquitlam Tennis Club in the summer time as well as in Port Moody behind the library. There were 3 nice courts up at Westwood Plateau that I remember beside a school with a decent lookout.

Stanley Park I played there, but thats an interesting place. Playing U16 and U18 Stanley Park Open ITF and you get some sketchy characters watching you and the other juniors as you play your matches haha. Jericho TC was always amazing.

Vancouver is a fun place. Won't be anytime soon that I go there but you never know. I do miss the place. I live in Prague, Czech Rep now.

Where do you play mainly?

At those 3 you mentioned at the Brablewood Park, Port Moody, Burnaby Tennis, and in the winter at Global, which is now called Coquitlam Tennis Centre - brand new bubble, redone courts and LED lights.

This winter I've been slacking with tennis - too much snow sports :)

Oh Prague, nice, one of my great-granfathers was from there, but I've never been...

Yea, Bramblewood Park that's the one. Come to think of it there are some great and interesting places to play tennis in and around Vancouver. Just like the skiing/snowboarding there. Hollyburn is another great place I've played.

Anyways, enjoy the winter. Keep posting those photos!

Also some super steep terrain from a hikeable ridge of one of the peaks. The photo doesn't quite do the justice to it...

I've determined that no ski company will ever make a pair of skis with the exact specs that I like or even something close enough for my liking, let alone a two-ski quiver that fits the bill. So, I'm seriously thinking about signing up for a build-your-own-skis workshop at a factory in Innsbruck https://spurart.at/en/.

I'm trying to talk myself out of it, because getting two pairs would be very expensive. But I have to say, the prospect of having two pairs of skis exactly the way I want them is pretty tempting.

Yeah, I lucked in with OnEdgeStyle Snowboards. I was their test rider before. Recently they offered me to design a new model. The AM 167 is the result... Will the testing them next week at Blackcomb Glacier.

As for your skis, there are custom builders out there, who would make you anything to your spec. Of course, doing it yourself will be a much greater experience!
