Kermit, the pro at Bally's in FW has a great EARLY Saturday morning workout, it starts at 7am, hey I said it is early, only costs $10 and I think it is a 2hr hitting session.
I belong to Bally's and play out of the University Place facility, but will play anywhere there is a court.

Good morning one and all. My work schedule has solidified now and I am working in Federal Way. "MOST" evenings I get of at 6pm and can play at the Federal Way club soon after that. There are also times in the week where I do not need to be to work until 9-10-11, as we work a flexible schedule. Looking for a partner to hit with in the evenings after work. My mornings can open for a once a week hit at the FW club. Drop me a note and let me know!!!

I've only been hitting with my son and my wife the last several months, but I think I'm going to be making a commitment to playing more tennis in the next couple of years. There's a holiday tournament at the Amy Yee tennis center that I'd like to play in (last time I played the Amy Yee tournament was back in about, ohh, 1980). Anyone in the 4.0 to 5.0 range want to get an early evening court time down there in the next couple of weeks? I have no idea what the court surface is like or anything.

Amy Yee is a very nice facility, I have played there twice, they normally run a week long tournament, which makes it challenging for me to get to Seattle and work at the same time. I think the surface is a slower one.

Yeah, I've been hitting at Amy Yee becuase I'm part of the usta tennis league and thats where we practice. I've hit there about 8 times or so (sometimes twice a week) and i found that it plays a lot different than the indoor courts near my parents house (bremerton tennis and athletic club).

I think there's a holiday tennis tournament at The AYTC that runs the week between Christmas and New Years, so I was going give that a go. I assume the courts are the same as twenty years ago - there's like four courts on a lower level and four courts on the upper level, and that they're just typical medium speed?

I think they have 10 indoor courts. They are on the slow side, but not as slow as Nordstrom or Central Park.

Dropped by there today. Not a ton of changes from 20 years ago, but you're right that there are five courts on each level. The bounce doesn't look all that different from Central Park, but it seems that the ones there are way faster than at Nordstrom.
I don't mind faster - I can adjust pretty well to that, but going to slower courts are much harder for me. That's why I'm so curious to play on some clay courts.

How is the weather in Seattle?
Being a California native and only living in CA all my life (except for 8 years in Tokyo), I have this stereotypical view that Seattle has rain/overcast except for 4 weeks out of the year when it has some semblance of sun. I currently live in San Diego.
But there's a slim possibility that I might have the opportunity to move up there so I'm wondering how much outdoor tennis you guys play or if most of your tennis is played indoors.
Tennis is my primary recreational activity, and I would be totally bummed if I did move up there and didn't get to play as much as I do now.

We do get a lot of rain, but there are plenty of chances to paly outdoor tennis during the year. Last year I remember actually getting sunburned while playing.
As far as cost goes, it is affordable to play in the South Puget Sound area, I understand that some of the clubs north of Seattle and in Seatle are rather spendy.

Yeah, I live only 5 minutes away from harborview club and its like a 700 enrollment fee and 110 dollar monthly.

haha..i see that people are dis-advertising Seattle. Ever since there was a boom to move out to seattle about 7 years back, due to congestion, pollution, traffic and etc seattle has been facing, people of seattle are told not to advertise Seattle so people would not move out there anymore..

The company I'm thinking of provides a free membership to the Pro Sports club which looks like it has 6 indoor courts at their Bellevue location.
There are membership levels at the Pro Club which do not include the "tennis" portion, so make sure if you accept the position that your membership does include access to the tennis courts.

I have inside information on the public facility at Magnusson Park. It's a definitely going to happen (6 or 8 bubble courts). It will either go up this summer or next spring (they need dry weather to lay down the courts).

There was also talk in the last couple of years of covering the courts at Grass Lawn park. It's supposed to be one of Redmond's signature parks, and because of that they've put down a FieldTurf soccer field and one baseball field already. I believe a second phase of construction was supposed to put down at least an infield of FieldTurf on the remaining two baseball fields and possibly put some sort of a cover over the courts, but I don't know the status of that. The housing construction that has now been approved for the back of the Northwest baseball field has apparently impacted the project in some way.

I'm actually not going to be picking up a racquet for the next couple of weeks as I try to take advantage of this dry stretch to try and work on some early season cardiovascular fitness. After that, I'll give you a holler and we'll get together for a hit.

There's a tournament coming up at the Bellevue Club and I'm thinking of playing despite not having picked up a racquet in quite a while. Can anyone describe the courts there? Fast, medium, or slow?

The courts are medium. A little faster than CPTC. BC has really high ceilings, unlike CP, where it's easy to forget about those low-hanging cross-beams when you want to lob. Also, the heating is not very good - it was awfully cold in there last Thur morning.

I played in the tournament in Corvalis/Albany OR a few weeks back, they forgot to turn on the heat, at all. It was in the 30's when we started the match.

Ha, you're right. I bought this cool Polar fleece "muffler" for my right hand that fits over my hand and handle. I use a normal polar fleece glove or my left.
Major advantage in matches when it gets really cold indoors...

Well, since it was so easy to do, I signed up to play. I'm really sore and tired from weight lifting and cycling/running training, plus rusty from just not playing so I'll see how it goes. The good thing is that the tournament is round robin style, so for my money I get to play probably at least three matches.
