Nike Cage 3

I never done it to the 2 Cages 3. Although if you do wear an ankle brace, you might have to as it becomes a nightmare to deal with everytime you put the shoe one. You could try it if the situation calls for it.

Can you cut into the booty to loosing it up without it unwrapping over time? Have never had a booty as described other then that of a skiboot inner liner.
be patient the bootie will loosen up as you break the shoe in.. i hate putting them on...but love the full wrap around support.. i used to have really tighten the laces on my other cages.. these i just barely tie them and the bootie hugs the foot.. i would think if you compromised the bootie it would dramatically effect the stability of the upper.

Thanks, I plan on wearing them around the house for two or three days to find out if I like them. I will treat the Cage 3 as slippers.

Thanks a lot, but some say that the womens shoes are a bit narrower than the mens shoes is that true?
not with every model.. i have worn cages, all three versions, and the cage is exactly the same.. essentially unisex. you might go 2 sizes up on the 3 since it is more narrow than the previous versions. i had a women's 11 1/2 and i bought a mens 101/2.. both fit well. once the 3 broke in i preferred the smaller one.

So I should buy the 11.5 considering what you say or just 11 as you explain here? Because I never used the Cage 2 and always use size 10 in CB because when is broke I like a little room. Thanks for your help and will make the purchase today

I tried on the Cage a couple of weeks ago. This may have to do with the fact I wear a custom orthotic with a bit of lift in the left leg to help with a length discrepancy. Loved the the way it hugged around the top of the foot and felt like it was locked to my foot on top, but the middle of the shoe on the outside where the two "pods" are apart felt like it would give way when I pushed off that side. I wanted to love the shoe, but that kept me away. I actually ended up going with a Kaos instead.

I'm around 220 as well so maybe the shoe isn't designed for guys my size.

the cage 3 is a bit more narrow than the cage 2.. to size up to a woman shoe is 1 1/2 sizes... but many claim that they needed to go 1/2 size larger with the 3.. so if your foot is wide.. you might consider going 2 full sizes on a women's shoe. if you are a nike plus member they are offering $20 off a $100 purchase until; midnight valentines day.

I've been using the Cage 3's for a month now. I slide on hard courts and the shoes has a hole already. I'm running out of socks lol. Is this normal? This never happened to my CB.

Late to the addition. Had my 3s sitting in the closet waiting for my 2s to wear out. Finally had a go with them this week. My impression, loved the fit straight out of the box, didn't have to resize, size 12 was 12. The bootie/sock hugged noticably more around the arch for me, but no issue in the toe box. There was a 3 hour break-in for me initially was quite stiff but then started to feel very close to my 2s (if not better). I did notice, and maybe it's my imagination, the heel to toe drop was more aggressive than on the 2s. On the 2s I felt more parallel to the ground, but with the 3s I feel more elevated in the heel. Great upgrade in terms of feel, in terms of durability, I'm pretty sure like others I'm going to tear a hole in the upper.... Fingers crossed!

I've had too many examples of the Cage and Zoom Cage 2 to count, very often getting replacement vouchers 4 months into use. Despite having size 9.5 Nikes (of many many kinds for decades) fit me perfectly, had to size down with the Cage and Zoom cage 2 to 1/2 size to 9, which fit perfectly...

When the 3 came out, of course I ordered a 9 which was painfully tight. Wore them around the house for 10 minutes before returning. Got a 9.5 in the Cage 3 and they fit/feel great! Comparing/holding up the 3 9.5 to the 1 & 2 9s, they appear to be exactly the same length. Not sure why they were small for the first two generations but back to "Nike normal" for the 3...

i wore the air max cage for years before i wore the cage 2 and like the previous poster would claim them in 2-3 months regularly... this new version lasted me 4 months.. i wasn't thrilled with the cushioning in that last few weeks until they finally burned through the sole.. the extra month was great in terms of durability.. but i prefer the fit of the cage 2 and the fact that when i claimed them they still felt pretty nice. i use to get cages and cafe 2's at the nike store on clearance for $50-$60.. ugly colors mainly.. but after a few months they were boxed up and sent back only to get $130 voucher in the mail.. the last few pairs of 3's i found on clearance were re-boxed which essentially voids the durability guarantee.. not cool. i just picked up an all pink 3 for $32... a great deal, but no guarantee. 1/2 size up is the way to go on the new 3.

I don’t understand that you need an original box to get warranty???
You can send any box with original receipt which prove that the shoes is within warranty period.

Good to hear Cage 3 is true to size.
For me, Air max and cages were strange shoes. I also got it for cheap but never really liked any of them.
Air max was worst shoes ever in terms of durability because I wear out outside heel area first. It only lasted for 40 hrs then I already reach clear air bubble so no longer use the shoes. My vapor lasts longer (70hrs) than air max cage.
Cage 2 was better in terms of durability but no longer provide heel area support. My Achilles will hurt after 40hrs of usage. Have not tried cage 3 but looks like it won’t be too attractive.
I still have so many shoes so might skip entire Nike tennis shoes for current line up unless I find those for dirt cheap.

nike has samples.. usually different colors and the like.. the tag on the shoe has a sample code, not the normal one that identifies it as the shoe in question. you can't claim the guarantee on samples. the last few clearance cage 3's i have come across have a non sample code on the tongue but come in a sample box.. they scan the box and it comes up as a non-descript number on the receipt. the shoe i bought is the all pink 3 with the black swoosh.. the exact shoe available online for $130.. i would love to use these and claim them.. but, from conversations from customer service they say these have no warranty of any kind..even from faulty construction.

the pair i bought before these were a version of the hard court series which was all black with a black swoosh and the gum sole... these were true samples and the code on the shoe indicated that. i wear these as shoes to work being all black. they are pretty sweet. these pink ones are not samples, they had a blue pair a while back, also not samples.. but left them in the store since they were $60 and i have a closet of cage 2's i need to start wearing. these pink ones at $32 went home with me because they were so inexpensive and perfect for the spring.

i understand where they are coming from.. nike has a great guarantee, the best out there.. and it doesn't make much business sense to sell a shoe for $32 and then give $130 on top of that for that shoe. i still want to of course. have been working this angle for a long while.

if you live in the states, and have a nike factory store near you, and if they magically carry tennis stuff, you might meet the qualifications for getting cheap shoes. i am lucky to have one near my work and one near my house... so near, in fact that it is no big deal to pop in regularly. and this is the key for my stores since if they show up i buy- before someone else can.. my stores are very hit and miss with shoes.. but when they show up they range from $32-$60. i have been buying court ballistics, air max cages, lunar ballistics, cage 2's and now the 3's this way for 10 years.

Well seems like I don't have the qualifications . The Nike stores here often only have full retail prices for Nike shoes if they rarely bring tennis ítems. But thanks for the reply

better off in finding local tennis stores that carries the shoes than going to a nike factory story. Very rarely they do carry tennis stuff on them. However, if you do go to their outlet store they offer 20~25% discount from them when you order with them; even the new models are also discounted. This is nice of them to make up the lack of tennis shoes, however the local store is much better to go despite the limit selections in variation of color and sizes.

Not much a fan of the new Cages (wish the cage part was more angular rather than so curvy and gooey), but I have to say these look pretty good.

got lucky. picked this colorway up at a nearby store that was having a nike sale the day it came out.

looks just like the picture in real life. First time wearing nike tennis shoes (always been adidas/asics) and no regrets so far. contemplating picking up the rafa t-shirt in the matching colorway...

My favorite color for this shoe so far. Picked up the first colorway which was the Grey and Aqua Green/Tortoise for cheap on the Bay. Looking forward to the WTF black with gum sole coming in soon. :D

I put it on my sons shoes before he wears them. He loves the shoe but as a slider the durability is awful.
Every once in a while I even break laces that way. I'm trying to put some under the top two eyelets to see if I can manage it. Not only I'm a slider, but some of the indoor courts I play on have been resurfaced since they essentially were slick, and they're like heavy grit sand paper and it's absolutely brutal on the shoes. I'm on my third pair of shoes this year: Air Max Cage, then Lotto Stratosphere 1 and currently Stratosphere 2. Usually I get by with a pair and an half per year. That said, none of these three shoes are particularly durable while not being as fragile as Vapors or Solution Speeds, so I knew what to expect. Probably would've bought Barricades if adidas shoes fitted me better: the two times I had a pair I didn't put a hole in them, the cushion gave up beforehand and I threw them away.

the sole is more durable than the cage 2..but the body of this new shoe is like paper mâché.... and i stopped wearing mine anywhere but on the court.. stairs are very dangerous with this shoe due to the size and slickness of the shank.

I wonder how many coats of Shoe Goo I'll end up spreading on that shoe.

Whoever involved to develop cage 3, they should not involve to develop any Tennis items.
Designers might not play tennis and have no clue that where the most rubbing areas are and wide webbing pattern will offer weakest durability since Tennis requires explosive movements. Webbing pattern will benefit to shave weight and ventilation which is good but wide webbing pattern will not work for tennis shoes.
Also I can’t believe product manager gave green light to produce cage 3......
Nike Tennis division is the worst division in their company. They need to have fresh minded people there.
Golf division is better but I don’t want to see golf shirt design for tennis especially upcoming Federer’s shirt which looks like Tiger wood golf shirts.

Here it was very preventive: nowadays I always add layers of repair glue because I'm a slider. As for Nike, they have good ideas every once in a while, but more often than not the execution isn't up to par. There's no reason for the shallow toe box. The big shank plate is there only because they removed as much outsole as possible. They're very focused on having pretty looking shoes at the detriment of practicality. The Lunar Ballistec and especially the UltraFly/Ultra React are worse offenders than the Cage 3. Don't know where these come from.

I have one of the first runs of cage 3s - and just picked up a pair of the most recent cream/orange/blue ones. They have added more rubber/closed some of the webbing along the “base” of the upper. I think it’s a great shoe and the sole is very durable. I usually wear a hole in the right toe of my shoes and these have lasted longer than almost any other shoe for me. I do slide on hard courts but generally on the sole and not on the side of the upper. I can see how those guys might wear through the cage part.
