Coric vs. Shapovalov

You know when you hold out hope for matches further along in the draw like this they rarely happen :D That's a match I'd like to see too, sort of a modern day Fed and Novak maybe, but I'd expect one or both Yanks to spoil the party. It would be pretty cool if we got Shapovalov-Coric, Zverev-Kyrgios, and Khachanov-Tiafoe fourth rounds! Man, there I go doing what I just said not to...

First time I've ever come across dislike for Denis on TTW. He basically flies under the radar in the invective sweepstakes here.

He's pretty well liked by everyone I think. He's even good friends now with the ump that he hit in the eye.

Nothing really unlikable about him, apart from the ridiculous hat.

What's not to like about Dennis? Nice young kid with great attitude and outstanding one handed backhand, usually an out standing serve and pretty good serve and net game. He is my favorite of the young gen.

That was an unintentional act from a frustrated very young man who has realized how dangerous a stupid act can be. He and the umpire are quite friendly now. The umpire has forgive Dennis, perhaps you should too? I am just glad the umpire has recovered and is still working on the tour.
him, Serena and kygrios should have been removed from this game for their behavior. anyway he's a great player hope he wins slams.

Why?

I mean gee, have you never done something foolish in a fit of passion? Most of us in our youth have made more than a few foolish mistakes we'd like back. Do people not deserve do-overs and chances to atone?

My goodness the internet can be harsh.

Kid's never done anything remotely close to this again and has been a model citizen otherwise.

I didn't know it was a common thing for kids his age to hit balls at umpires. regardless he's a great player who will most likely be a slam winner. atm I just don't choose to root for him based on that. in the future, I could change my mind and be his biggest fan.

He didn't hit it at the umpire. He just hit the ball angrily and it happened to hit the umpire. He was mad at himself.

From what I have read, Dennis did NOT intentionally mean to hit the umpire, he was frustrated, and hit the ball wildly at nothing or no one in particular.

If he intentionally hit the ball at the umpire that's a life ban. As for this thread it looks like a match thread on the wrong forum for a match that may not happen.

Not sure why everyone is so excited about Coric...his Service is not that great..especially the second serve..his forehand is error prone..his BH is good and he runs and gets lot of balls..mentally he does not look that strong...

Looks like he learned the lesson from it and He is fine so far.
Medvedev is the worst in my opinion.
Coric has hot temper which I did not like but looks like he changed his behavior nowadays. It’s extremely hard but somehow he learned. Coric is playing well now but still a little doubtful that how he can sustain current level of playing. If he continues, he can be inside top 20 soon.

I am hopeful that Coric will beat Sock and face Shapovalov next. Can't wait for Coric to kick Shapo's ass :D

I'd never guess by your username what your obsession is. (I recall similar posts by you at the last Davis Cup match.)

Having said that, I think your 'obsession', Coric, is in great shape and has really pulled his game up to the next level. Denis is still young and inconsistent. I'd have to give the advantage to Coric.
(But in reality I want Shapo to win!)

I give the edge to Shapo. In the Shapo/Coric DC match the Serbs kept watering the court all the previous night to make it super slow. Even then Shapo seemed to be starting to get the hang of it against Coric. Today Coric was broken in each set and twice in the first one. If Shapo's serve is on tomorrow then I expect him to win fairly easilly. Shapo's serve was not great today but he still managed not to be broken at all in the first set and only once in the second and third. Shapo was effective on going wide at a sharp angle but today had a lot of trouble going down the T line. Look for that to be fixed tomorrow.

It's interesting that Serbs get blamed for the court conditions in CROATIA vs Canada tie...

Shapovalov can really redeem and prove himself with a win against hot Coric coming off of great IW performance. Coric probably is the favorite to win cause of the conditions but I really want DS to win.

i like him but dont like him to using tactical mto before his opponent is about to serve in the deciding set
Actually before that MTO Physio already took 3 min to come on the court(not his fault), he got his leg taped up in about 110secs (instead of another 3 min) and went to play ASAP. Seemed to me that MTO was not tactical. If he repeats taking MTO again and again at crucial situations ofc my view would change.

Don't you know it already, they're all the same. Remember one grumpy old lady hating Kvitova because she hated all these grunters with name ending in ova. Er, Navratilova?

I'm glad we'll get to see Coric teach Shapo a lesson later on. Most overrated young player around, don't know why people heap so much praise on Shapo when others like Thiem and Zverev actually win big tournaments and get hate for it. Beautiful shots aren't all you need to be a champion, or many players would be. Shapo about to get taken down a peg, I'm looking forward to it.

Which big tournament has Thiem won, actually? And don't crow too much about Zverev's lucky Masters titles. He needs to work hard to back it up in future. Or maybe not, with the way the tour is crumbling.

I like them both, though prefer Dennis's game. I think that Coric, being more steady is likely to win today.

Dennis is only 18, the others you mention are 20 or more. In that age group a few years make a big difference.

I hate to say this but I've come to accept the fact that the Djoker will never be the same again, back to his dominant 2011 or 2015-2016 season.

I love Coric because his game reminds a lot of Djoker and Murray. Here is the best quote from Coric: "When I'm at my best I am more like [Novak] Djokovic game wise, when I'm not, I'm more like [Andy] Murray,"

Physically, Coric is a BEAST. You put Shapo stand next to Coric and it is like Lebron James versus Kelly Olynyk. Who is Olynyk, exactly....

That's the only excuse and it's ****ing terrible. He almost cost that umpire his job, you have no idea what that umpire was instructed to say behind the scenes, as the ITF and the ATP have much more interest in hyping Shapovalov than in letting the umpire speak his mind.

It's literally the same excuse that you can apply to drunk drivers who destroy entire families.

The 17-year-old Shapovalov later apologised to Gabas, saying he was “incredibly ashamed and embarrassed”. Gabas, who had bruising to his left eye, went to hospital in Ottawa for a precautionary check-up.

“I went back and spoke to the umpire afterwards and apologised directly to him,” Shapovalov said.

“Luckily he was okay but obviously it’s unacceptable behaviour from me. I feel incredibly ashamed and embarrassed and I just feel awful for letting my team down, for letting my country down, for acting in a way that I would never want to act.

“I can promise that’s the last time I will do anything like that. I’m going to learn from this and try to move past it.”

It's a hard heart that can't eventually forgive that.

I think there's a big difference between forgiving it and whitewashing it. I can forgive him, but it's still one of the worst offenses by any tennis player in the 21st century.

He's the first player to hit a ball irresponsibly? Happens all the time, just he actually hurt someone. Nobody is whitewashing anything, but judging him by that his entire career is really silly imo
