Can't imagine Ivan tolerating for a second any interference from the likes of Pepe or any of Novak's family!

Exactly! Can you imagine Lendl having to consort with all of those artsy-fartsy/philosophical types with their heads in the clouds? It's hilarious to even think about it.

Lendl is a no-nonsense guy and so is Andy Murray. That's why that partnership worked.

I can't imagine anyone famous in tennis world and worried about their reputation wanting to associate with those types, they just have no place in pro sports. Agassi was probably the closest to that line of thinking and he bailed too.

Until/if Novak gets straightened out don't think he'll have such an easy time finding a coach despite his amazing tennis legacy.

That's what ND-13 is for! He and Djokovic will get on famously as they both like to invent stories. :D
Sorry, I couldn't resist that one!

I agree with you. Anybody smart and who doesn't need a quick infusion of cash should stay far away from NewAgeovic these days.

I hope Novak can get back to his best soon.

I’d love to see Novak win a couple more slams before he calls it quits.

Me too, but I am afraid that is not going to happen. Hopefully, I am wrong.
Yeah it’s looking that way :(

I know players decline and that’s part of sport but his decline was so rapid and sudden. I’m still shocked that he’s not in the top 3.

I have faith. So many people so the same about Federer and Nadal and look what happened.
True, but Roger and Rafa looked healthy when they returned, though they may have been a bit rusty. Novak, however, does not look healthy and in the past two matches he lost, he declined more and more as the match went on as he appeared to run out of gas after the first set. Also, he does not look healthy, almost gaunt.

What’s going on with Nole right now is pretty depressing so here’s something that could make some of you smile:
Miami 2007 Final: Djokovic vs Canas.

Djokovic won his first M1000 and became the youngest ever player to win Miami (19)

He's enjoying himself. He's had his entire life focused solely on tennis and has achieved greatness in the sport. He has a future filled with countless options. I think his fans are the ones who aren't coping well with this change in Djokovic. Djokovic looks content and seems to be enjoying life.

Paz y Amor, whatever you say, uh huh.

Djokovic doesn't have anything left to prove to anybody as far as his tennis career goes and he could retire tomorrow with his reputation as one of the ATGs of tennis fully intact. It's just that he himself says he wants to go on playing and still aims to get back to his best.

He's been saying lots of things for the past two years. It doesn't make it necessarily true or realistic.

A few thoughts:

1. Djokovic's announcement was, in its way, a lot classier than Agassi's, who has a history of passive-aggressive behavior like "we agreed to disagree too often." Good riddance I say.

2. Lots of folks gonna eat crow in a few years. How soon people forget Federer's 2013 or Nadal's 2015/16.

3. Djokovic, not Federer, is gonna be the one to tie or break Petros's 6 Player of the Year finishes. He's already got 5 by my lights (2011-12, 2014-15, co-POY in 2016).

4. I applaud his restless mind and intellectual curiosity, even if it means he has chapters of his life that include flim-flam men/charlatans like Pepe Imaz.

5. I am rooting for him to come back in a big way damn soon.

agreed. not only was the guy never in the coach's box, but despite his player being in a tailspin for the better part of two years, he was virtually invisible. on top of that, as you rightly pointed out, he couldn't even craft a magnanimous parting statement. I like Agassi but if you've read his book and know anything about the guy, Planet Agassi will always have a population of one.

Honestly I don't think they spent enough time working together for any real judgments to be made. Djoker's injury basically ended this partnership before it could take off. Obviously they had some disagreements on things Agassi envisioned implementing. Until we get those details we cannot make any judgments one way or the other.

In the end, Djoker still needs to find a way to right the ship. He seems a bit rudderless atm. I don't think we can blame Agassi.

definitely this, 100%. for a guy who was a picture of consistency for years, he's developed into the complete opposite. had the same coach (Vajda) with him for over a decade. even kept him there in a decreased role once Becker came into the fold. had the same physio, strength and conditioning coach, hitting partner, trainer, etc., etc., for years. dumped them all. Becker was with him for his greatest GS title success, roughly 4 years worth. gone. brought in Agassi not even a year ago. gone. brought in Stepanek not even six months ago. gone. apart from his wife, there's no resemblance to the old Novak Djokovic at a tennis match anymore. add that to the excessive weight loss for an already thin guy and you've got to wonder what the hell is going on.

Yeah and the reason behind that difference is , he's got Pepe but his fans haven't got Pepe.
