I know most people are watching their opponents like hawks, just waiting for them to do something wrong so you can be justifiably annoyed.

So just how long does it take before you get annoyed with your opponent and dream about the scathing post you'll make about them on TT or Facebook?

Can you make it more than 10 minutes?

I am trying to increase my annoyance threshhold.

Previous: somewhere in the warm up when opponent seems incapable of cooperative rallying at baseline or incapable of feeding some balls for volleys at net.

Current: opponent returns obviously out serves back .. no where near me so that I have to fetch errant ball now on my side of the court between 1st and 2nd serve.

Working on having fewer things get to me

Admittedly I take my time then ask for two. Usually they comply and hopefully stop returning out first serves.

Usually I just get peeved at myself in tennis. Usually that takes about the third easy miss.

My opponents only annoy me if they do really egregious things like hooking. I generally view all opponents as potential friends so I'm not looking for things to get upset about, but looking for things that would make me add them to my contacts list.

Haha! When our ladies team moved up a notch this season our coach says “ those women will find something wrong on every match no matter how trivial” luckily she’s been wrong!

They walk onto the court, change shoes and start streching.

I dont understand putting your bag on the bench, i always do that. Do you sit on the same bench as your opponent?

If I'm working my game right, my opponent should be annoyed with me in the parking lot, BEFORE the match even begins. At my age I prefer quick and easy wins.

I am much too busy watching my opponent's fundamentals to observe their weaknesses or tells about their body mechanics and swing
patterns to ever get annoyed with them. The more I can learn about their abilities or inabilities the easier the important set play should
go.

Plus, being in a state of being annoyed, detracts from my warm up. Seems to me people are just to da*m sensitive today expecting
others to cooperate with their idea of the way things should proceed.

In the warm up, the lack of the ability to ralley cooperatively is as annoying as intentionally hitting out. Like D posted above I get more annoyed with myself except for the coaches. Don't give unsolicited advice.

I'm annoyed by pushers who hit NOTHING but lazy-ass slices (as opposed to skillfully executed, strategic slices) and that low, knee-level pendulum swing that spins the ball in a sideways spiral. Oh, jeez, play tennis already.

Entirely dependent upon the frequency of shank returns of my sweet 75mph 4.0 serve to the backhand.

Okay, new answer is 17 hours. After they lost all 5 courts, after their entire team including captain left immediately, after scores have been input, then they dispute scores over one game on one court. If it was that important, stick around, look at the scoresheet and sign it or discuss it then.

and the 12 -ft topspin almost-lob with no pace all day long. i get plain ol' bored and lose interest. I just use those matches to practice different serves/speeds/spins, and also practice lobs. I start hitting sky-high lobs just to see how high I can hit it and still get it to drop in...if it goes out, I don't care since I'm bored anyway. If I can make the ball reach the exoshpere and burn up on re-entry...that's what i start going for in those types of matches, since it's all a big fat 'whatever' anyway...I certainly wouldn't practice that stuff during a clinic or regular hitting session, but if someone wants to push moon balls at me, then I say let's go for it all the way.

This one is great. Had that happen last year in mixed. Other captain disputed and whined to the LLC. So I just said, "make the scores whatever he wants them to be."

Some of those 12 foot quasi-lobbers think they're doing it right. I went to a clinic once with a VERY prominent local "head pro," who oversaw all the public tennis courts and events in a large city of over 1 million, and is considered to be a very "elite" member of the USPTA.

We were firmly instructed to stop thinking about "hitting," and to take the word "hit" out of our brains, as if it were some kind of contamination. It was repeated over and over: "You don't 'hit' the ball, you 'brush' the ball, to give it topspin." So you had all the clinic participants (most were 2.0 - 2.5 hackers) flicking their rackets straight upwards, trying to "brush" the ball and not "hit" it, the result being those 12 foot moonballs you describe. But what the heck; the ball went up and came back down, so they were happy with their newfound "skill."

More related to the topic, I guess that's somebody else I find extremely annoying; the "pro" ("pro" = "works in the pro shop") who gets paid $60+ an hour to spew drivel.

Had a 4.5 match a couple of weeks ago. We were the home team, so were responsible for the balls. My partner and I each had a new can of Penn clay court balls (we were playing on clay). Both of our opponents said, as if on cue, that they would not play with Penns, so I went up to the clubhouse and bought a can of Dunlops, which pleased them. I knew what they were up to, but didn't bite (my partner did though--he was annoyed). On the way to and from the clubhouse, I decided that I would quickly determine which guy couldn't volley and make him play a lot of balls. We won 2&2.

Why get annoyed at all? No one's life is at stake.

Agreed that it's not worth getting annoyed. But that doesn't mean you have to accommodate every request either.
I would not get annoyed that opponents requested different balls, but at the same time I'm not going to go out of my way to get them. I would just smile and say that I prefer Penns and it's home team's choice.

I know my opponents get really pi$$ed at me, not just annoyed, because at the first change over I'll take their towel and wipe my armpits with it :D
...and drink their water
...and dump their bag that was on the bench, over the fence

-1 for not thinking to floss your crack with their towel.
