Big Ace Micro vs Firestorm

I've been looking for a thinner guage, soft, powerful co-poly to use in a couple lower powered frames I have. I tried a poly/multi hybrid with Cyclone 18L in the mIns at 45, and Velocity 17 black in the crosses at 50, but I really didn't care for the feel.

After some research, it seems like Pro Supex Big Ace Micro and Signum Pro Firestorm both seem to fall into that category according to the few older posts I found on them, but I was wondering if anyone has played with them both.

I'd love a comparison between the 2, and if you have any more suggestions that may fit the bill, I'd love to hear them!

I don't remember much about playing with Firestorm other than that I found it comfortable. Big Ace Micro barely felt like poly to me.

What did it feel like? More like a multi type soft?
It's such a thin string that there is little stiffness to it. Moreover, it fails to grab at the ball. While I had less free power than, say, synthetic gut, I don't believe I got as much spin as I would from a full bed of PSGD even.

I used to play with 16g when I used my 14x18 Prince frames. Since I switched over to 18x20, most 16g strings just seem way too thick. The last string I've used as a full bed in this frame for an extended time was Cyclone 18L. I guess you could say I'm used to thinner string now, and I kind of need it to generate any type of decent spin and power. I'm still lacking a little power, so I decided to try a few higher power strings. I wanted to stick with poly/co-poly if at all possible.

I have never used Firestorm, but I have used BAM in both full beds and hybrids on a longterm basis, with excellent results. It retains the crisp feel of Big Ace but with added feel, comfort and power. Unlike the previous poster, I get great bite with it. It's especially good with 18g GOGSM crosses if you are going the hybrid route. If the gauge seems too thin to you, give BA17g a try.

Thanks for the info! I usually use Cyclone 18L which is 1.15. I'd be more concerned using OGSM in 18g! How has the durability been for you?

@DanS
Multi crosses have not worked for me with poly mains

I've had decent results with Velocity 17 black, but its a little too muted. I believe Reflex has the same coating, and I had a few packs I haven't touched so I was going to give it a try to see how it felt.

I'll pick up some syn gut as well and string my second racquet with that and see how it feels side by side.
