Starting crosses for beginners

I'm so sorry to trouble you guys with this.

I'm a new member (first post, but reading the boards for a while) and stringer and I'm struggling.

I've looked at loads of videos on starting crosses and am still confused.

What is the pattern for the first two crosses.

Do you start over and finish under?

Do you then start the next cross opposite to the end of the first?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's driving me mad.

If you start by going under a main you finish by going a main. If you go over a main with an odd numbered cross you will under that same main with odd numbered crosses. When the mains skip holes is when you get confused. If you cross end up going over / under the last main start again the opposite way.

Hi Irvin. Thanks for the reply. Does the first sentence mean if start by going under a main you finish over? I think there's a word missing

if there are 12 mains you must string though, and you go over the first you will go under the 12th. Then because of skips the next string is tricky for beginners. Assume the second cross goes through 14 mains. Then again you must start going over a main so the second cross intersects the center 12 mains opposite the first cross.

Thanks Irvin. I am stringing a Head Graphene Touch MP with shared holes.

Does that mean it doesn't have skipped holes? I'm sorry for these questions. I'm a proper noob

For that racket yes but not all some rackets have shared holes and skipped grommets.

Here a little trick for getting started. Count the number of mains you will be stringing through for you present cross and divide by 2. If you end up with a even number go over the first main. If you end up with an odd number go under.

Too much thinking. Just make sure that you go under if the prior cross was an over. This is not Rocket Science!
