This thread is for any players that would like to discuss the new Wilson Clash or Wilson Clash Tour.

I just ordered mine (Tour Version) and I can’t wait to get it on the courts.

I am coming from the Pure Strike over to the Clash because of elbow issues I am still not fully recovered from. I am trying to decide if I should go Clash 100 or Clash 100 Tour. In studying up on arm friendly racquets I learned that heavier racquets (when comparing two) are typically more comfortable racquets. However, when looking at the TW review scorecard they give the 100 model a 90 for comfort and the Tour model an 89. I understand that is almost the same score, but I was actually anticipating the Tour model being scored as more comfortable.

My elbow is still healing but have already pretty much mentally committed towards moving to the Clash. Just need to make the final decision...Clash 100 or Clash 100 Tour. Any suggestions for me?

I use to swing with a 315 gr Pro Staff and I also have shoulder-elbow issues when I play too regularly.
I was considering going down to 290 gr Pro Staff to try to avoid these issues.
When I was offered the 315 gr Clash, I didn't want because of that.
I did it in the end and was really surprised how easy it is to swing balls with it.
I then tried the 290 gr Clash and it felt too light for me to be comfortable.

I don't know how hard your issue is but I would recommend you to test the 315 gr one before, especially on the serve motion.

A higher recoil weight is generally going to make for a more comfortable racket.
https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/recoil-weight.552536/

Using the TW specs the Clash will have a RW of about 163kg*cm^2 while the Clash Tour will have a RW of about 173kg.

So in theory the Tour should be more comfortable just from the math.

That was the decision I had to make too. After doing a lot of research on the two and taking the advice of the play testers from TW, I decided to go with the heavier version. Not sure if anyone noticed this, but TW is offering a 60 day guarantee on the Clash if you purchase before April.

I went with the Tour version as well. I doubt I will officially switch to it as I am not a fan of super flexy sticks, but it should be fun to tool around with in hitting lessons with the better juniors!

I wonder what's the better bet: Clash 100 with some weight customization, or jump straight to the Clash Tour? It seems like the tech is intended to be played a bit lighter than a traditional stick. Whatever is going on with the flex probably requires some decent racquet head speed to work as intended.

Has Wilson even hinted around yet on when the 98's are coming out?

My guess is late spring early summer. They are supposed to release the matching tennis bags about this time also. I honestly think Wilson is waiting to see how successful this line will be before going to a 98 or 95 line. The Ultra just came out with a 95 tour and that line has been out for some time now.

I think from everything we know about it you are spot on it’s not going to be like anything we’ve ever used before. I went with the tour, I think customizing is okay, but why not just go ahead with the heavier stick. Take a look at those TW play test review videos when you can. They have them for both models.

My money would be on the fall around the time of the US Open. Like @TagUrIt said they'll want to give it a little longer to judge before they start expanding the line, and 3-4 months doesn't seem like enough time to me...

I think the TW staff said they are expecting it in July, but I'm not sure if that's a guess or if they know something. I'd love to see it out as soon as possible.

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with waiting for the line to be successful. That's just them putting the Ultra paint job on the Burn 95.
gonna be another fail
I don't think so. A lot of people have been saying it feels very unique and I think it'll be successful. I'm gonna wait on the 98 though.

what are the specs for the 98? 18x20?

One more thing...as someone who is hopefully coming back soon from tennis elbow I also looked at the Prince Phantom Pro 100. Am I moving to the Clash too easily or should I still consider the Phantom Pro 100. The TW team gives the edge in comfort 94-89 in a match up between the PP100 and the Clash Tour.

Unless you are in a hurry to buy, I would demo both. I would also try the ported Phantom 100, which is probably the ultimate "pillow racquet."

98 will come in september!

And the 100 has a bit more larger sweetspot then the 98, thats why it felt a bit more comfortabele. But the 98 has more control!
I liked the 98 tour very much! More power then mij PT57A'S and H19.
Will buy the 100 tour next week and the 98 tour in september :)

The beam thickness and rather large hoop is a turn off. Give us a 98 with thinner beam and better control but keep the nice flex please.

The 98 tour has a lot of control! Thinner beam will result in less power. Flex and the power stands for the Clash!

Can’t speak to the clash but have pp pro 100p that is amazingly comfortable with plenty of spin and power.

Whatever is being said about the Clash and its unique combination of RA 55 flex with a thick beam to offset it, I find it hard to believe that a mere 11.5 oz strung weight frame can function as a "Tour" racket. You cannot beat Physics with tweaks here and there.

Maybe I am wrong. I will get a demo eventually and see for myself.

According to TE, the Clash's power rating is "low, " which nixes it for me. I'm betting this will be another short-lived fad product.

I agree with all this ... BUT ... the reality is that it's probably a great racquet for the intended market if that market were less delusional about their real level of tennis.

I'm interested to see how the Wilson Clash goes and whether the concept is incorporated into other Wilson models and whether other companies do something similar.
Personally I like thinner and heavier traditional frames (95- 98 head) but I see the move to flexible frames that still have power to be a great thing for players arms. I wish Wilson all the success with this idea.

Can you offer any specs info here? Maybe racquets that could be considered similar in power?

Just some specs. 16x19 strung with leather grip( not standard) 340 gram 55 RA and very headlight.
With 10-15 grams lead at 3&9 youve got a massive armfriendly weapon of destruction :)
I found the power simmilar to near to a pure drive or a older leaded blade

I got a chance to hit with both the regular and tour version last night. I prefer the tour version as it's a bit more solid. Although I wouldn't really call it a tour at all as it's very much a tweener. The feel is definitely different and needs getting used to. The racquet is flexible but the harder you hit the racquet stiffens up. The racquet is very easy to swing and I think a lot of beginners/intermediate players are gonna love it and will probably switch to it. I think what Wilson is trying to do here is poach the APD/PD players that you see everywhere on the local tennis scene from Babolat with an easy to use racquet that has plenty of easy power but much more arm friendly. The racquet has a lot of power but a surprising amount of control. Although, control is not it's standout point. It's not like you can take a big swing at the ball and expect it to go in type of racquet. I didn't like it too much at net especially during quick volley exchange as I felt the racquet too clunky despite it's low weight and sw. The hoop is so thick that I felt like I was hitting with an oversized racquet, which also makes the sweetspot very generous. Oddly, I found that the racquet totally lacks spin. You'd have to brush up on the ball quite a bit to generate spin. The paintjob is disappointing and very boring. Overall, it was fun hitting with it but it's not the revolutionary racquet that Wilson hyped it up to be. Usually when I enjoy a playtest, I get really excited and can't wait to pick it up and hit with it again. That was not the case with the Clash. It didn't really excite me in any way. It's not something I'd consider switching to as I find that it lacks spin and not enough control. However, I do think Wilson does have a hit on their hand as it's different from the rest of their lineup and they'll sell plenty of these racquets to the beginners/intermediate type players.

Weird that they are competing with the Rf97 at that weight class.

Edit: I now see you said strung weight lol

Nope. This is a keeper! Trust me, the Clash has plenty of power. But dont string to hard. With low tension, they play even better! But they need some lead!

I was thinking of getting mine strung at 50lbs when it comes in. What did you have yours strung at?

Mine was strung with rpm blast at 22 kilos.
I normally play with 15 kilo but with the clash i gues it will be 18 kg because the more open stringpattern and power. And with Diadem Solstice Power 18 and another try with the Luxilon Smart.

Sounds similar to a flexible OS Wilson I bought cheap from Big5 a few years ago.

Haha yes and with leather. The leather was applied bij my pal. I hate leather. And it become too headlight. But even then is was very nice. With my own settings it will even play way better, for me

IMO the specs alone tell you that The Clash was designed to make the game easier and more fun for beginner and intermediate level players. It's an easy on the arm wide-body (thick) frame with a big head (100). Yikes. Next up will be a frame that hits the ball for you and also keeps score.

Would it have killed Wilson to make it 12 oz strung?
Yeah . Cause only 7 people would have bought it at 12 oz . That’s what’s the best part of this . Like pros hair pins it comes to you as a platform low weight .. You can weight it as you deem fit :)
I applaud Wilson for flexible and light . I’ve been screaming for this for years . No more buying 26 juniors with high flex and low weight . And extending it to 27. Which is what I had to do ..
now while we are talking about why Wilson won’t do ? This or that ?
I would love a clash 95 or 90
With a 18x20 pattern ! Love !! Me and 7 other people !:)

But in all seriousness suresh! Wilson does have some 12 oz strung or close to it with low 50’s RA . Gotta go back a few .....
Wilson k factor Kobra tour could fit the bill, a hugely under rated frame in my opinion :)

Or the Wilson 7.5 pro staff . Or the Steffi graf white blue and red pro staff .. just off the top of my head ..

or

And if you can go deeper in the time vault ,with a midsize head there was the Wilson matrix , the reflex , Wilson staff , Chris evert autograph 85 white frame , and many more :) great rackets all of them ..

A 95 with 18x20 sillicone in the handle and pws , 325 or 330 gram unstrung and balance of 32,5 strung, then I buy the 7 others [emoji2]
