As an old school tennis fan who loved Sampras, Becker, Edberg, Lendl, Federer etc tsitsipas is the man for me!

Tsitsipas wawrinka and Federer are the only players keeping me involved and watching the tour on a week to week basis. I’ve been a fanatic since I was 6 years old. I’m 30 now. If you like attack based, all court tennis, single backhand and good mental strength they are the only 3 players that I know fit the bill in 2019! When I started watching tennis in 1995 there were dozens of these style players. The way the tour and tennis in general has gone in the last 20 years is sad to witness and the people in charge should be ashamed of themselves. What they have done making nearly every court in the world slow is a disgrace and it’s ruied tennis as a global power. It’s down to the terrible baseline moonballing style of play in the last 15 years that tennis is no longer Popular. Tennis has sold out. I want the people responsible for the slow balls and courts held accountable for there decisions to make tennis into some money earning machine. There was no need to ruin things.

Any body willing to name names on who coursed this to happen to tennis please spread the word.

I've enjoyed tennis since the Rosewall /Ashe days, with some ebbs and flows over the years. I had a lull for quite some time after Edberg retired. Eventually, I warmed up to Fed. And, then I went nuts when Edberg joined his team, haha! I think it may be awhile after Fed retires before I'll find a player to really get pumped up about. But, I hope I'll find things interesting enough to keep watching!

I'm completely sold on his game.

If he could just stop questioning every line call, taking excessively long bathroom breaks, tapping his racket while his opponent serves, being a dick to ballboys while also complaining about tour entitlement, and overall acting like he's the 2nd coming of Socrates.....that'd be great.

Um, but Socrates was a jerk. It's why they made him drink poison. Maybe he is the second coming. ;-)

I still like his game, and he is a far cry from some others who behave badly around the tennis court.

Do you remember what a dickweed Fred acted like on the court at that age? The best do outgrow it.

That's kinda what I've been thinking. I'm not giving up on some of these youngsters yet. They will likely evolve emotionally as they mature. I'm more interested in their style of play.

He does anything possible to p*** people off within the rules. I'd rather see someone breaking the rules tbh. If he keeps doing it, one of these guys is going to corner him in the locker room after a match one day if they haven't done it already. I want someone to bean him at the net. I'm serious. The kid needs someone to set him straight. Maybe he'll start acting right if someone gives him his own medicine.

Btw, I like his game and hope he changes.

And I wan't a fan of Fed at that age (heck, I wasn't even a fan until he turned 30 and became "old.")

I hope he grows out of it, and if he does I'll be 100% on board. But until then, I just can't bring myself to be a fan of the kid. For now I'll just enjoy his tennis.

I also listen to what their fellow players say about them, how they treat the press, how they treat the fans...

He'll just make a teary-eyed YouTube video or 9 paragraph facebook post about how he's been bullied for "being different" and is taking a stand against people trying to push him around.

Tsitsipas will need to mature a lot for me to really like him or root for him.

That said, I do agree that the game (modeled on Fed/Sampras and their S&V legacy) is a welcome sight for sore eyes in this era of Djoko clones.

People blame slow/homogeneous court really makes me laugh. Racquect/string/fitness evolve and makes it possible for top player to dominate all surface. Usain Bolt is GOAT in both 100m and 200m. In the old days, the golds used to go to different runner. It's Usain Bolt greatness make him champions in both 100m and 200m. Was 100m extended and 200m cut to benefit Bolt? LOL...

Plus, I don't buy tennis is losing its popularity globally. In US, the TV/media coverage went DOWN for quite some time. It's not the problem of sports itself, but the lack of US top male play.

2 of the 3 players on your list prefer slow courts, so I'm not sure they will be too happy with what you're suggesting.

With that said, I miss Pete, too. Don't expect another player to come along like him any time soon.

The guy was a one in a billion talent.

Have only really supported 2 players, originally Lendl and then Djoker .
That is a long time between drinks, without following any particular player.
In another words, it is not always easy just to jump ship when your fave retires, or look for someone with a similar style of game.
I will still watch tennis though, even if it is another 2 decades between supporting specific players.

It is difficult too when you have guys like Lendl or Djoker as they win very often. Not that I picked Fed in 05 cause he was winning (it helped). But if you are a fan of Fed or Djoker, anything after that simply can not be the same (less matches too since they won't go as far consistently).

I think for me (maybe for you in between Lendl and Djoker?), what will keep me interested is the parity.

Tsits and Wawa like slow courts? I know they have both been successful on clay, but I would think eventually Tsits will be better on hard and wawa has always been better on hard.

Maybe you are saying slow hard courts?

Pete was awful on clay and also not so successful in AO. He was one of the best exponents of fast courts. But what agassi achieved in a time where every court played differently is quite great and I think if agassi could have got about 4 more slams he would have been on par with pete. I am not so sure but out of all people who have the career grand slam agassi has faced the most varying conditions.
