If you're 3 dubs on Varsity in MN, there's no way that you're a strong 4.0, unless you transferred from Edina.

I played #1 singles in a suburban school, and I'm a legit 4.0, but I still lose matches at that level.

I think most of you have your NTRP wrong some say you're 4.0 and on JV thats highly doubtful if not plain unbelivable. Some say you're 5.0's you could be competing in college.

Are you shopping for D-I schools? Anyone who is an NTRP 5.0 in high school is probably a valid Division I candidate.

5.0s in high school, and Varsity in junior high................

sometimes this bored makes me laugh.

Although a 5.0 in high school is possible, you don't see it very often.

I played varsity in Junior High (8th grade), but in no way was I a 5.0, not even close.

I agree with you 100% here though - 5.0's are rare at the HS level, because most amateurs at that level are playing ITF/USTA tournaments, and not bothering with HS team tennis. But I don't doubt that there are some serious 4.5's and probably some 5.0's in HS tennis.

Like Varsity for a local high school, or was the school team split between Junior Varsity and Varsity?

From the past posts, it seems that there is Varsity and JV at middle schools, when I was in middle school (last year) there was no such thing, just a tennis team.

To the middleschool-ers/junior-high-er, don't boast about being Varsity or Junior Varsity if that's not how it really is, you are only confusing us. We won't look down upon you for telling the truth, but trying to sound "cool" or whatever......just isn't working.

Ahhhh, we aren't doing very well this year.:( But that's okay...I've really improved as a result of playing for my team. Our set-up is odd...Lemme try to explain:

Joey (Senior/Captain) - #1
Cameron (Senior/Assistant Captain) - #2
Jessie (Sophomore) - #3
Adrian (Sophomore) - #4
Blake (Senior) - #5
Charles (Senior) - #6
Ben (Sophomore) - #7
Sergay (pronounced "Surge")(Senior) - #8
Nathan W. (Senior) - #9
Me (Sophomore) - #10
Dennis (Sophomore) - #11
Nathan H. (Freshman) - #12

Notice anything strange about our grade levels? Yup! No juniors on the team! Out of the 25 players who tried out, probably 7 were juniors - nearly a third! But not one made it...A friend of mine would have, but he was academically ineligible due to poor attendance. That means that next year, our captain will be a junior! As will most of the players, I guess...We'll most likely finish low in our division next year, but it'll turn out okay. Strange, right?

We had 3 teams - junior high, JV (high school) and varsity (high school). We weren't a big tennis school, so our varsity my 8th grade year had 2 freshman and an 8th grader (me) on it. We were actually really strong when I was a junior, due to that experience. That was a few years ago, sadly.

Varsity in Junior High seems very possible, but it'd be a lot more believable if there were more Junior High Varsity Teams.

I don't know about other areas, but there are a plenty 5.0s here in Los Angeles. Some teams to have them are: Carson, Palos Verdes, Granada Hills, Eagle Rock, Marshall (I think), and there's one in another team, but he didn't join the team since he was bored.

your forgetting palisades. plenty of uber players there. and marshall is also pretty good prob, considering some of their players did well in the watts summer games.

I hope your not directing this to me. Just because your school doesnt have a varsity and jr varsity doesnt mean anything. Maybe you come from a small school or maybe it doesnt have a budget for 4 full tennis jr high teams. Even in Texas I would think for sure that your jr high schools have both varsity and jr varsity FOOTBALL. Ours do.

Now if you must know more you might find this interesting that for the larger tournaments we have several high school jv players (9th grade) take our 2-6 spots while our jh high varsity plays the JV matches. The high schoolers (9th grade) also play some of the jr high varsity doubles matches. We have a very large schedule and are only eligible for 8 individual tournaments (does not include dual meets). I sit out against the weaker schools to maintain my eligibility for the larger school (6A) matches.

We have big schools graduating senior classes are 300+.

BTW while you were picking up trash I kicking the crap out of my jh tennis coach on the courts during PRACTICE.

Are you still confused?

Yes. I'm still confused, and in Texas classes of 300 is considered 4A, we have classes of 500+, my class(2010) has 900 kids in it.

I'll put my question in simpler terms.

In Junior High, are you playing Varsity High School matches? Or is the Junior High team split into Varsity/Junior Varsity?
