Why is like 85% of content here either directly a GOAT thread or some other topic which ties into it somehow and is just part of a constant jostling for GOAT status among boring fan groups?
I can't even force myself to care any more. It's always posturing and greatest this, greatest that, ranking the greatest, so on. Furthermore a good 90% of posts here would have to be about the Big 3. I'm so over it tbqh.

Who tf cares who the GOAT is. A good chunk of the content here is like a really long, unimaginative game of three-way chess with players who aren't particularly good, just evenly matched.

I like all the Big 3 but I think I'm done following them. There's only so much you can say about guys who win most of their matches and whose games have been analysed into the dirt for the last fifteen years, and who are all basically playing tennis as well as anyone ever has.

That's my statement, but here's my question: How does everyone not burn out talking about it?
Are fanboys just so fuelled by the fire of wanting to say "my guy is better than your guy" that they can keep this up for literally years? Are there paid media shills posting here? Please hand me your thoughts.

GOAT is the ultimate achievement in any sports, right? The best fight tooth and nail for it. Fans get pulled in, its only natural. Its fun to watch tennis just for time-pass, but after a certain point it gets quite serious and enigmatic.

"Will Nadal/Djoko catch-up-to/surpass the GOAT of tennis?" is a pretty serious discussion at the moment while "Will Kyrgios/Zverev/Thiem/Tsitsipas win a slam?" is time-pass stuff. Huge chunk of tennis fans interested in the former and few interested in the latter.

All these GOAT discussions are pointless. The only race is for the best of the three. None of them have much of a chance at GOAT.

At least 23 of the threads on the gen discussion forum aren't about the big 3 right now. This thread however is about the big 3. Start an interesting thread or stop complaining, pick up your racket and go out to your nearest tennis court and bust some serious balls.

Gotta thanks the ATP for turning the tour into the German/Spanish football league. It's ok to be a fan of XYZ player, but if literally just 3 guys win absolutely everything, even the most rabids followers will get sick of it. This place has become that: extremely repetitive and predictable. You can't ask them to talk about any other subject because there's literally nothing else to be "excited" about as far as tennis is concerned.

All roads in tennis leads to the Slams, YEC's and #1 Ranking.

For example, "Yay, Kyrgios won a ATP 500." That's all good. Leaves a bad taste if he doesn't win M1000(s) and then "Slam(s)".

This shows a pretty poor understanding of tennis history. It was only 96 before Agassi bothered travelling for the Aus Open. 10 years prior, hardly anyone was showing up. That generation is probably scoffing at how few Davis Cups the so called Big 3 have won, while future generations will laugh at their lack of Laver Cups or Chinese Opens.

My understanding is pretty spot on. Laver's CYGS just blows people's mind than anything else in tennis even after 50 yrs. Participating in the smaller events was rampant since it was a major income generating aspect back in the day. Less of that today and focus on the slams remains the same.

Davis Cup was the only exception but is an after thought at the moment.

On a more serious note, I do believe a lot of "same old, same old" style threads and commentors on this forum are the result of habitual users of Talk Tennis becoming radicalised by the slightly polarizing environment of the forum at the same time as their general interest in the game has decreased.

They are wanting to participate in threads, and may have become reliant on Talk Tennis as a social outlet but may not have the time or interest level to follow the game as much as they once did.

The GOAT debate, and demeaning #nextgen players has become a form of verbal shorthand for people with very little to say about the current game. It's a way to participate in the forum and fulfill some need without investing the effort in watching matches and being genuinely invested in the "goings on" in tennis enough to have anything new to contribute.

Nah he wasn't. Lendl and Becker were both poking holes in his competition from the git-go and homogenization is a thing.
He hasn't even retired with assurance of being generational GOAT, let alone actual GOAT.
