Best head shape for 1HBH

From a pure head shape perspective..what would the better one be? wilson "classic" shape, dunlop "squary" shape, prince "roundy" shape etc.

I prefer Head "egg" shape, followed by isometric Yonex head, (all mid-size, of course). :)

i think it is a big part once you consider that each person will have a greater liking for a specific head shape. i like the yonex and rarely shank a backhand with it, whereas any wilson i play with gives me a hard time on the backhand, i just feel weird playing with a wilson headshape. so i would go out and try them out for yourself, b/c truly, each person is going to like something different.

Wider head shapes (Wilson, Prince) are more prone to twisting when mishit, despite all the balancing technology. That's why I voted to Head Mid as the narrowest head shape.

I have a wicked cross court 1HBH on the run with n6.1 90 when I hit the sweetspot. When I don't, it could be all over. With PC 600 it's always very consistent.

wilson headshapes are the best for just about everything but dunlop comes in a close second. yonex is terrible for serves and head is just the opposite. prince headshapes are best for spin. I'm sure there will be people here who tell you all this is a bunch of ****

I hit very good 1HBH with ANY head shape. It's more the headsize that matters to me, the smaller the better for my 1HBH.

I really dont understand what you are saying here?..

Even if I am messing around with friends, and I borrow their racquet or something, I never think to myself. Oops, this is a "this or that" racquet.

I just hit the ball the same way I do my own, and dont think too much about it.. Obviously as it isnt the same to my normal racquet you cant hit exactly the way you would like. But it shouldnt matter what you use, the technique stays the same, just the swing differs to compensate for the change of weight grip size ect....

Its not rocket science..

I think it's really more of the racket balance than the head shape ...

Just try messing up you fav, properly-balanced 1HBH racket by just 3 grams and see how your BH goes out of shape. Try it and see, just for fun.

we may have opinions, but the companies make them in various shapes the make them play better the other characteristics of the racket

The Dunlop's are great for one-handed backhands. Considering they usually have a shorter handle length compared to some companies. I had great one-handed backhands with the M-Fil 300.

For heavy spin 1HBH, which I think you need to be able to compete in todays game, I think a broad shape is good. I play with Wilson PSC 6.1 95 sqi, which is good, but I am considering getting something bigger, like the 100 sqi Prince Diablo tour Mid plus.

Never really considered the questions. I use a one hander and my two favs are Head and Dunlop...

Agreed with BP. Smaller is better for 1 hander. I occasionally hit my leg with larger head sizes. Probably my fault.

Head shape is less important than weight distribution and headsize.

I have a 2 hander, but in warm up i will hit a one hander, and I have a yonex RDX 300 103", Prince Diablo, and Wilson n4 101", and i must prefer to hit my one hander with my Yonex, it feels more stable.

Cant agree..

Someone once asked me what my backhand is like, and I simply say find video of Boris Becker's first Wimbledon win Vs Kevin Curren... (no, not comparing myself). But in all honesty as a kid growing up, I modeled my backhand on him.

Infact I modeled my whole return of serve the same as him.. Even down to the way he holds the V of the frame just under the head when he returns serve. And the little step back and forth that he does before he returns.

Like Becker, I taught myself to not just block a ball back, but actually take a swing at it to take the return up to the server.. Same in a normal rally..

The backhand for me is my strongest side.. Topspin, flat, slice.. And in saying that, I for one like a racquet with some give and flex..
