Navratilova’s “RD-7”

I found an unusual listing on FleaBay for an RD-7 that didn’t look right. Saw a signature on the grip, and noticed a 16x21 string pattern so I pulled the trigger hoping it was something special. The signature kinda looked like “Martina” so I tweeted Navratilova about it. She replied confirming it was one of hers from 1994.

Anybody know what’s under the paint? It’s definitely widebody. The grip feels like 4 1/2 and it’s still strung with Babolat “NATUREL” string. I can see where lead tape was on the frame at 3/9 but was removed at some point. Interestingly, the frame doesn’t say “RD-7” anywhere - both sides of the frame have the same text: “Graphite Composite Made In Japan.”

It was really a RQ-180 under the paint

Rq180 was a hateful piece of junk in my opinion. The 2 I had as a yonex junior both cracked in normal play, across the throat. They wouldn’t replace them.

Honestly, I think that was common among most Yonex frames in the late 80s/early 90s. I had the same thing happen to me with the R-50, the RQ-420, and a couple of the Cyborg series. The only ones I got replaced were the Cyborgs, but that was through the online retailer, not Yonex.

I know she really did use the RQ-180. I was thinking to myself the headsize looks with that paint job. I’m human I’m not right all the and I do make mistakes unlike our glorious leader.

Yep, the 180 was the pearl colored one, right? I used the RQ-260 for a time and it was a fantastic frame. I don't remember the 380, or yesterday for what it's worth.

Yeah, there are plenty of self-proclaimed SME's around here

So, this racquet is a very bad bad quality piece, do not playing long enough?
I got one, and it is amaizingly comfortable soft stick.

But he always was unhappy with the RQ180. Yonex changed so many things that under the paint it was a new racket in 1990. They sold it as RQ260 but Cash used his old paintjob.

This is the only Yonex worth discussing!
