It was actually half sarcasm and half serious. Yea, it’s the closest it’s ever been. I questioned why Fritz was there at first, but he was able to get that pivotal win over Thiem to keep Team World in it until the final match. I’m not trying to knock Team World for their efforts. At the beginning of the tournament, I thought they had a great chance to win it here with Team Europe’s form being questionable.

i cant believe it was the americans who actually saved team worlds asses, and this entire time i was ******** about them. nick failed against fed though he was close, denis was the worst and flopped despite having match points and honestly raonic had sooo many chances against nadal in teh first who knows how it would go if he got the first set.

there are al ot of flaws in this event i know but to be its still one of the most enjoyable parts of the year and i know some people on twitter who went and honestly the said that it has to be one of the most enjoyable live events ever and the atmosphere was ****ing insane and teh fans actually for the most part were pretty fair i think until the end where they were like **** europe needs to win we are in rogers home town

You're just being cynical. It's fine not to like it. But to suggest that they're acting... do you think every one of them are A-list actors? I'm not sure of other players, but I for certain know that Fedr is a terrible actor. Did you see the many takes it took for Fedr to barely finish the short Fedal promo years back? :-D

lol we dont even need to look back to that, the sascha/fed promo for their exhibition (which that is an actual exho) was cringe worthy. also i dont get people finding an issue with enjoying this event. if you dont like it dont watch, its not going to change the face of tennis. tennis will still be an individual sport but shoot there were so many people tuning in and like dustin brown said, he has never spent an entire weekend just watching tennis, that has to say something.

people are picking on a toddler essentially (3 years old) and a 3 day event. if you have problems with it thats fine, imo i think they do have to change things up, 1 i wish it werent so ranking based, the whole europe vs world will get tired up, but for now its a super enjoyable event. i think people get peeved because enjoying it makes it seem like you like it better than actual tournaments. ffs ofcourse i would happily trade fed getting wimbledon over lc, no doubt about that but still seeing him emotional today was sweet

Rewind of Fedal's pep-talk to Z before the tournament deciding STB, expletives included ;).

tbh fed knows sascha fairly well and i think he knew team world was getting to him. i actually think this is teh right event for that kind of trash talk and team world running and celebrating when he double faulted imo is fine, its sascha who needs to learn to keep it together, he basically just lost 4 straight points from there. so fed telling him to do his own fist pumping and **** is great

I thought the crowd was great as well. They cheered on good points from both teams. They just wanted to see more tennis, but ultimately, they wanted Team Europe to win of course.

Boston, I don’t think will be like that. But, we’ll see. Team World might finally get the win there.

speaking of, this is wild i didnt know that dustin was dating nick's sister, talk about a small world. i mean kevin was glued to team world winning (i forget that he was going to play this year) and tehn you cilic also tweeting in happiness for team europe.

i completely understand teh gripe about this event taking away from toher tournaments but guess what people can do two things at once, i washappy for medvedev and tuning into that thanks to my twitter time line along with this event. in stead of knocking down a successful tournament, people should use this event imo to help promote the rest of the atp. look how many people fell in love with diego last year or found kevin compelling (**** who knew he could be exciting)

He took it seriously because he's been losing so much lately.

true, but also i think people undestimae how much people love playing for a team, it brings out something in them and tsitsipasprobably didnt want to let fedal down, he was supe focused. there are issues with this event but i also found this one enjoyable weekend, far more exciting than USO and RG on the mens side,

Any word on why Agut disappeared before the end?

he was there during the celebration though and i think posted some pics celebrating on twitter and IG. he might have had a flight to catch or something idk. in 2017 players left pretty quickly as well. i think last year there wre a few who stayed behind to party

Russia is usually considered part of Europe.
Well yes that is what I thought, was just trying to understand the suggestion that Mededev would be on team world and the nonsense about the EU, however I digress because a lot of tennis players have mixed international backgrounds anyway and it's really not a big issue.

Agreed. Whatever people have rated Goffin/Edmund/Chardy before LC18, after it, these 3 automatically get many bonus brownie points. The culprit? Laver Cup ;).

Yes, tennis is a solo sport, but except the superstars (and the slams), it's generally pretty stale as a presented product nowadays. OTOH, Laver Cup is a spectacle, a show that just draws people in, especially the more casual fans.

I'm not sure if it's apt, but it's like if I compare many of the tour's lower-tier tournaments being 'an actor auditioning for a part for a movie' vs. the Laver Cup's full cast being in the completed movie, with all the intrique (media access, clips, mics, cheerleading, coaching, etc.) condensed for quicker consumption just for this tech-savvy world. We live in a social-media saturated world now, and LC provides the content the current generation loves. There's a reason it's been so successful after only 3 editions, and there's zero ATP points at stake (for now), yet the tension is palpable many a times. I mean, it drives Fedr to tears. The only other places that get Fedr this emotional are slams, (Basel for him personally), and maybe the Olympics. Normal 1000/500/250 don't bring out these emotions of his, except on rare occasions. Also, Nick (Isner-LC18, Fritz-LC19) cry during LC, yet he doesn't even care if he lost at any other tournament, including slams. LC must be doing something right.

i think i saw rafa tear up too. no one is saying LC should be the fae of tennis and heck roge rhimself said that he doesnt think the scores should change on regular events, he's always been a bit of a traitionalist. i think there are flaws with this and personally think after boston they need to look at more arenas outside of america during the world year

Fedr was asked about China. Fedr said 'why not?' for world-years. He only hopes that wherever LC goes, the fans will be just a pumped up as the previous 2 years (was asked at start of LC19).

LC20 in Boston makes perfect sense since it's an Olympics year, so it saves travel time for the participants.

tbh unfortunately or fortunately it also depends on finances in terms of who can host, the infrastructure, whether fans will tune in or not, and whether the players will travel or not. tbh i think somewhere in asia that hasnt seen tennis would be cool because most guys are going to be in asia next anyway the next part of the atp is the asian swing so its easy for them to just go to the next tournament but also perhaps with the concept of bringing it to places that never see tennis , maybe they are not considering it.

i personally think if they ever brought it to somewhere in africa it would be great, that same year they can do s.africa which represents both kevin and roger and then also somewhere in the carribean and idk maybe a south american country not argentina as well

Do you think the competition is remotely equally balanced?

Let's stop pretending that the world tennis was ever in this. My cynicism come from how this event is hyped; especially since it's basically a varsity vs. JV scrimmage.

Like the Washington Generals were kinda even with the Harlem Globetrotters.

sigh okay well if you dont like it dont watch it, its not like this event spans 1 week or 2 weeks, its 3 days. its marketed well, sorry not sorry but people can choose to enjoy this and the rest of the atp tour, i know its foreign for people but two things can be done at the same time

So you don't think it's all an act, and isn't scripted? Cool beans then.

As for balance, nope the teams of LC19 are not balanced on paper. But on form, going into LC19, it was close bc Fog/Z/Tsits/Thiem were either unhealthy or were on terrible form coming in. The scoreline ended up supporting it. That's 4 of the 6 main players. Now we know that Nadl was unhealthy too, and we had known that Fedr was a question mark after his neck/shoulder ailment from USO. That's 6 of 6 TE players being iffy. But on paper, yes TE was waaaaay better ranked. For the next few years, TE will always have an edge as long as any of the Big3 are in decent form, but it won't always favor TE going forward. Also, the short matches (2 full sets and a 3rd set STB) helps the weaker team bc the shorter the format per match, the more of a coin flip it becomes (of the 12 matches played this year, 8 of them went to the STB, where anyone can win). TW could've comfortable won this had they won a couple more STBs. And this TW didn't have the likes of Nishi/Delpo level players.

This Cup confirmed to me that Tsitsipas, Thiem, and Zverev are really in bad sorts, possibly physically, definitely mentally. Was really hoping these three would really start picking up their games this fall, but none of them looked particularly good, even with Sascha getting the clutch final win. I don't see any of them factoring into the fall season or Australia.

Well at least they weren't like the Canadians (Shapo and Roanic) who CHOKED for Team World( totally embarrassed)...Hopefully Team World picks better representatives next year o_O

well tsitsipas did get his win and who knows maybe this will rejuvinate him, he himself said that he was feeling uninspired, thiem well sorry this is indoors and he's always been hot and cold, and i think this could help sascha's confidence,he surprisingly double faulted maybe a few times and was returning well. hopefully this helps his confidence. idk about thiem because its indoors, but who knows for the other two. we'll see.

lol australia will come to to big 3 i'm sure, most likely novak who is resting now

Fedr, so humble, and almost brought to tears. He had to cut it short or he would be in tears.

i was like **** is he going to cry, smart that he cut it short tbh before he got weepy we know once we starts its hard to stop, though i kind of would have paid for team world to see that, i would hve been like why is this dude crying like that after we lost? even though i do love fed getting emotional (well if its because he wins). he got teary eyed after his match against nick, the stadium went ****ing nuts tbh during that match.

i just want sascha to make it for europe tbh and make diego come back or get delpo and kei for world, tbh i dont mind nick beign back, it was great actually see him coach and kind of get his inner thoughts and tbh some of what he said did work, and his tennis mind (maybe because he doesnt have a coach) is quite good.

sad to say this years team europe press conference imo was not as great as last years, but i also think they did a better job of bringing the focus to other players. no one joked about going on vacation and who would pay for what and we didnt get jeremy chardy saying "everyone just follwed me the whole weekend" but it was still cute. definitely teh focus wa more on fedal (i think rafa got the most questions actually) and then sascha.

best part was borg, when asked how he felt about this weekend and that john was saying this one will sting) and he was ilke i hope it stings for years and when asked about the rule change, he was like look you can complain about the rules all you want, we won. to be fair i do think that part could be evaluated
