Something that upsets me a bit is how commentators always discuss strategies on how to defeat Nadal making comments like “something that drives me crazy is that no one uses the (insert secret magical strategy to beat Rafa)”. It all sounds quite biased to me, I’ve never heard such comments during Federer or even Djokovic’s matches. I may be looking a bit too much into it.

Do they also actively discuss other player’s matches like this, it never fails with Rafa though.

I've noticed that too. With Djoko and Fed they go on about how brilliant they are, saying they are the best in this that and the other. In Rafa's case, they wish his opponent would find a way to beat him.

In the days of SKY Sport, I sent them a tweet to complain about the bias. They also repeat ad nauseam all the players who have beaten Rafa.

I understand discussing tactics, but they sound extremely biased when throughout the match all they point out are Rafa’s flaws and how (in their own words) they feel frustrated that no one ever exploits them. It’s bizarre really.

Did Rafael or Jo, in their post match presser, say what was said at the net at the end? Both clearly have respect for each and shared a laugh when they were about to shake umpires hand. Just curious.

Rafael is a warrior. He will come out stronger from this! As much as I am sad he didn't play, I would much rather he be fit and healthy in the long run. And as he mentioned 2009 USO, you don't want this issue escalating. Vamos!

Wtf, injury out of nowhere. Better to pull out of the WTF just in case he gets a bigger injury for the AO next year. I know it's 2 months away but no point killing yourself to get the #1 which Djokovic will mostly look like to get it.

He should play it if he's in a position to play. It's not a knee or wrist injury. There's enough time between now and AO for an abdominal strain to heal. Also from his presser it seems like a mild one.

That's the impression I got as well. Seems a minor injury but he's pulling out since he knows how that turned out at the 2009 USO.

Yeah he even mentioned the US Open 2009 in his presser. He doesn't want a similar episode and being precautionary here. That doesn't mean he will play London but I won't count him out completely.

Rafa's Health

According to the Spanish media, Rafa will undergo tests on Monday (48 hours after the abdominal injury occured) to determine the extent of the injury.
He spoke to his doctor, Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, by phone before his withdrawal from the Paris Masters due to abdominal pain.

Get well soon, Rafa!

I'm certain Rafa would have played the Paris SF if it was a London SF.
Look at how banged up he was at the end of 2017, and still fought like crazy in that Goffin London match.
He withdraw from Paris to increase his chances of being fully fit for London :)

ATP World No.1

It's official: today (November 4) Rafa returned to the top of the ATP Rankings for the 8th time!

From his very first day at No. 1 (August 18, 2008) to today, it has been exactly eleven years and 77 days.

Eagerly awaiting Rafa's update on his injury, he's got some further tests today I believe?

I really hope he plays in London. If Novak wins the whole thing undefeated, Rafa needs to reach the final (with 3 RR wins) to seal the YE #1, or if Novak wins the whole thing with 1 RR loss, Rafa needs to reach the final with 2 RR wins. Go Rafa!

i thought results were supposed to be today
Rafa will have (maybe he already had ) an MRI scan in Mallorca on Monday. The results/report will be sent to his doctor, Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro, in Barcelona. The doctor will discuss the results with Rafa on Tuesday.
