Wilson's release plan

If Wilson is just going to put the exact same tech into every single racquet line (CV or feelflex) then why even bother staggering the releases? Why not just introduce all of them at once? Does it make that big of a difference?

You try to release racquet models in a staggered fashion so you can build a story. If they all came out at once then that would be it. You need to have a continuous narrative to keep people interested.

Imagine going to a shop that's barely making it and saying "hey I need you to get 16 different models all at the same time". Staggered releases help both the company, retailer, and consumer.

Federer doesn’t complain like you guys here I guess. Oh wait he won 20 Slams with his made in China racquets.

Seriously. Wilson s qc is really bad these days Their rubber paint on those ps are the worst.
Wilson need to reopen the St Vincent factory and cease production in China.

Federer doesn't complain because as long as he get paid handsomely!

I am pretty sure he has to perform well to get paid that much. The difference here is not where the factory is located.

Pretty sure all the lines are getting the "Clash" treatment.

I just sent a few messages to Wilson friends to see if I can get any info. I would assume it will have the FeelFlex technology, but I wouls also assume that it will be varied just like the difference between the Blade V7 and Clash use. So I don't see it as a standard frame, but some variety. Maybe not though.

Ultra Tour has been different than the other Ultras, correct me if I'm wrong. In curious how they will play that out with v3.

I highly doubt that Federers' racquests are made in China.

I live in Bulgaria and I've had the chance to hold in my hands Grigor Dimitrov's Pro Staff (93inch, 18x17 with the black & red paint). The built quality is definitely different from the racquets in the stores. At the inside of the throat, apart from his name in a fancy gold font (Grigor Dimitrov), there is a Wilson logo and below it says "Designed in Chicago". On the head bumper it is written "wilson" with a font I've never seen before. Even if this racquet, or Fed's one was made in China it is definitely built with better materials.

No need to argue with me . there are ppl here who has Fed sticks and they have a better testimony. search is your friend.

So you make conclusions based on others' research and experience? Seems legit.
You do know that designed in and made in are two completely different things right? Does is say it is made in Chicago? No.
You have provided zero evidence on the Dimi stick. No photos, no measurements, to prove otherwise. Seems super legit.

Do you think the Chinese working in the factories are all captain America? Indroduce everything at once, how long do you want them to work?

My question would be why does any one assume that any of the decals, paint or information are accurate on these pro-players frames. They are just painted frames that don’t indicate anything accept trying to sell a retail racquet to the consumer. May be the only business where false advertisement is completely permitted.

I been stringing this v5or v4 w.blade for this guy, who got it from some sponsored player!, friend of a friend type of situation
the racquet says/written on the throat 18/20,, but the pattern is 16/19,, took me about 3x to get used to this "lie", haaaa
total paintjob, pro stock racquet, looks like the v6 version but its:
1.shiny paint, instead of dull like the retail v6,
2.grommets don't fit for the v6 pattern I listed (PITA when we had to order grommets for it),,

but to answer your question,, most tennis people simply don't know, they've heard of paintjobs, but are still uncertain if its true
buying a racquet that lokos like your favorite players racquet choice, is a cheap way to feel closer to the tennis dream,
I keep saying it, Federer's racquet sells really well!!, but it finds its way into "the resale market", very soon after, a lot!, most people cant handle the real weight!!

The Federer frame may actually be one of the few that if you buy the frame it is relatively close to what Federer is using. He has a bit of lead at 12 and a filled grip but yet it is close. For sure not suitable to most players.
What sorta makes me feel like it is a bit ridiculous is when you see players like Halep and Kivitova that have been using the same frame forever and repainting it every year so people will buy Wilson frames. All these Burn, Blade, V7, PS97 that it looks like they are using are the Steam 99.When training junior players is have had to let them know numerous times when they want the frame their favorite player is using..that’s not it they are looking at on tv. Inevitably the older frame they are using hits better than the new ones.

That certainly does look like Grigor's personal stick, nice pickup! But I don't know of or see anything there to indicate that Wilson prostocks, even very custom ones like Dimitrov's are made somewhere other than a Wilson factory in China. "Designed in Chicago" yes, but they all say that and are *made in China*... Was it restrung? Think Grigor uses a hybrid of gut/4G and that string looks different despite the power pads...

Back to the Wilson release plan, I really hope they leave the Ultra Tour alone!! I love it (once modded to similar weight/balance as my old RF97s) and hope they don't put Clash tech or anything in it. But have stocked up 10 UTs in case the new version is different. I don't want a Clash-ized anything, just a boxy, thin, foam-filled 18x20.

It is restrung. He is indeed using a hybrid setup. This racquet collects dusts in a tennis club in my hometown. The owner (of the racquet) is a friend of mine - a tennis coach. His father is also a tennis coach with a great reputation, who was a chairman of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation. He got it personally by Grigor indeed strung with gut and 4G, however many people want to try it and a guy hit the frame and broke the strings :D. The grip is the original one though! I believe that it's size is a custom one, since it is bigger than L4 imo.

The UTs are good and you got 10!?!? I think it needs to be a bit more solid and I used lead tap but it doesn’t solve the problem. The UT lacks power big time. I donno what the new 2020 UT is gonna be but I fear they will ruin it.

Very cool he lets people hit with it... The original gut was probably gonna break eventually even if just hanging on a wall. Yes I believe Grigor had/has custom molded grips. Think he used to be a main P1 gold client but now uses on-site stringers. But might still get the grips done by P1 (not sure, just guessing)...

After being a lifelong ProStaffHead (85,95,90/88/97) I really love the UT. It certainly has less power than the RF97, but with enough tungsten putty, lead tape, and full-bed Luxilon 4G it has all the power I need and waaay more control/feel than the RF. The Fed Stick is amazing for volleys and slice 1HBHs, but my FH and serve never "clicked" with the RF like older ProStaffs. But as far as feeling "solid", it seems on par with the RF once modded. Just my $0.02... Plus a given PJ is normally not a factor in my selection process but like the look of the UT and love the glossy paint.

Yeah, 10 is admittedly overkill. I usually get 5 of a given stick with 4 customized/strung in the bag plus a matched spare. But with the crazy low $129/119 clearance prices combined with the threat/rumor of the next version being Clash-ized - ruined as you said, I stocked up.

But my hunch (back to topic) is while Wilson may change the other Ultras, *if* they keep selling the Tour - it may be left alone. Clearly it's different from the rest of the Ultra line and they needed some PJ/range to drop the H19 mold into and weren't gonna pick PS or Blade...

Could be many different reasons. H22 sticks are typically made with higher QC standards = higher manufacturing costs = lower profits. Maybe also it could great a problem assortment wise. Right now you have different lines with specific characteristics targeting a wide customer base. Let's say you introduce a "H22" line, how do you market it? You already have an extremely successful Pro Staff line. You introduce a second "Pro" line? That creates customer confusion which leads to lost sales.

Well getting a h22 line can fill the gap of 18x20 player frame. I have a bad feeling about what they are gonna do with this. They re gonna clash it aren't they
