The bitterness comes from all the media fawning over him for 10+ years when Rafa/Novak fans believed their guys were just as good but didn't have the same opportunity as Roger (5 year head start and taking advantage of a 'weak era'). It's simple, really.
It‘s not simple. It’s BS.

Looks like Roger maybe got a hair trim? Seems a bit shorter than when he arrived in Melbourne.

He did something last night which I have never seen him do. He didn't remove his headband immediately after the match and throw it into the crowd. He wore it the entire time Courier interviewed him and when he walked off court. This may be trivial, but breaking a long-held pattern was very weird to see. Almost as if Nadal didn't arrange his water bottles in front of his chair.

New tactics to throw the opponent off their game. You better believe the competition noticed.

You mean more years. Djoker has had it easy since 2014 or 2015 and Nadal since 2017 (also accounting for 2010).
Yes that's what I meant. From their POV Roger had a head-start, so they've been playing catch-up this whole time and reaching him was only a question of when, not if.

Sev says the courts are slower than last year, contradicting McEnroe who said last night, "I think the bounce is lower than last year and speedier all around."

Severin: "Last year they changed the balls, now the surface. It's even a bit slower than last year. But we don't know yet how it will change over the days, having said this, the slower conditions don't need to be a disadvantage for Roger due to his experience, he can adapt fast."

Link to the article won't work, but you can Google the remark.

Federer continues to amaze me. I cannot believe that he's still playing. Any win at this stage(even round 1 of a major) is a good thing.

Listed below are players that are 35+ years old that are still ranked in the top 100. It's amazing that Fed is still ranked in the top 50. The only other guy ranked in the top 50 on this list is 2 1/4 years younger than Fed.

Yeah, we take this for granted sometimes.

I noticed that too. I think he did it for aesthetics; i.e. hide his receding hairline. It can look rough when his hair is wet. Have you seen Fedal's head after a match? Lemme google..

Better not let Rafa fans see this one, they will ooo and ahhh over the shirtless Rafa. You know who specifically. ;)

As far as the headband thing, my wife actually noticed that, and said maybe he thinks this is his last AO and wanted to keep it (she is a Rafa fan though). I was thinking it had more to do with charity and he was going to sign it.

That's Lenny.

The way I tell them apart is that the one that looks more like baby-Fedr is Leo. Leo has a longer face, and makes aloooot of expressions during matches lol.
This is Leo:

Note how much taller Leo is to Lenny. And they're twins! (pic taken at WB17)

Except I think the pictures you posted are the same boy as the one I posted. Here’s another one of the two of them. I think the one on the right is the taller one. And to me he looks more like his sisters. Honestly as they’re getting older and with their hair getting darker they‘re starting to look more alike to me. Really the only way for me to tell them apart is one is a bit taller. And the girls are looking less identical as they get older and wear their hair differently. When they were little I thought they were the spitting image of Fed (and his dad). Not so much anymore.

Your original question's answer is Lenny. Lenny is the one on the left in both pics above, the shorter boy.

Didn't get to watch the match but I checked the score and it seems like a bright and positive start from Fed.

It was a very good start for him.

Serve had decent pop and the serve up the T on the AD was hugging the line. He had an ace that landed halfway up the line and bounced away towards the deuce court. It’s almost an impossible serve to hit at his height.

He sat right on the baseline. Johnson csnt really tske the ball early enough nor has the BH to bother Fed, so who knows how the strokes look when under pressure. Johnson could not apply pressure at all from the first game on. BH looked good and looks to provide some offense for him.

Return was decent.

Very promising start.

It's exceedingly rare, but it's been known to happen once in a blue moon. If he does it again tomorrow, then we'll know it was deliberate.

Man, it's like they are twins.

I might create a thread on the courts since I can tell the long-version story of this year's courts.

Short version: the courts were laid 4-5 weeks later than the last 2 years because the first painting of them separated from the courts and had to be redone. So while the court surface is technically slower the curve of speeding up as they wear will be faster than ever (since the speed curve starts off quickly before leveling off).

However, the balls and the temperature have 20 times more impact on the general playing conditions than the paint on the court. If the courts are lower bouncing this year it's entirely down to the ball since the hardness of the courts is unchanged from previous years.

Yup. Fed has no superstitions or rituals like Nadal. He is more fashion oriented and tries to hide his receding hairline with changing hair styles and headbands. I guess this year its more obvious so he is not taking the headband off. In the interview with Jim Courier, I can see his baldness even with the headband on. May Bjorn Borg bless Fed with tournament wins in AO 2020 and Wimbledon 2020 too :)

I'm moderately starting to believe he can make it to the Semis, and from that point, anything can happen

He’s looking good so far and I’ll take it but man Djokovic is lucky. There was/is nobody coming up behind him that’s even close to being a real consistent challenger the way he was/is to Fed and Nadal (and the way he and Nadal were/are to Fed).
