Returning to tennis after quarantine - have your shoe preferences changed?

Like a lot of people, I lost a heap of weight during the quarantine period (funny how having no money for food and all day to exercise will do that lol).

Now that I'm back being able to hit 4 or so times a week I have noticed I don't have quite the same preference for cushioned shoes as I did prior to the break in playing.

Has anyone else made changes with their shoe preferences since returning to tennis? Are you trying new shoes now that you are hitting regularly again? Or has your approach not changed?

Particularly interested in feedback from folks who hit on a mixture of clay and HC.

you are lucky to have lost weight during quarantine. Some of us had the other problem. But I still like my cage 4s but am curious about the zoom gp turbo coming out soon.

I’ve actually started using lighter shoes like the Vapor. I still wear my gel res for long days but sometimes a light shoe just feels good.

The zoom gp turbo is one of the most anticipated shoe releases ever imo. The two colourways that I have seen so far look great.

I particularly like the grey and blue which looks similar to the old Nike air Max breathe cage 2 colourways.

Vapor X is one of the changes I made. On clay, I went from ubersonic 3's to vapor x. I feel like sliding is much better in the vapor x and they are a faster shoe all round. Still love that upper design of the ubersonic 3 though.

I actually like the x due to the mesh upper and how breathable it is.

It's an amazing design. That really open mesh in the toebox is great as well. Really breathable and soft and allows for toe spread but you still feel locked in by the rest of the shoe.

The ubersonic 3 upper is incredible but obviously lacks the lacing stanchions. You don't get quite the same control of the fit as you do with vapors.

I’ve never owned a pair of Ubersonics due to how simple the uppers look, especially the 3. The 3 looks like it doesn’t have amazing support but I’ve heard good things about it. I hope there is an ubersonic 4 and they do something cool.

I love the old Vapor 9s and still have a bunch I bought many years ago. But I started using the Vapor X Knit the last few months and I’m really loving it. I have to size up half size, but the sock design is super comfy and keeps my feet stable when I’m running. No slippage at all. Only problem is the price, so I have to wait for sales.

of the 2, the Uber sonic 2 is the one to try.

Absolutely. The wish list for an Ubersonic 4 for me would include a more adaptive fit on the upper (which is otherwise excellent) and full length lightstrike cushioning.
