Are the tournaments even accountable, if they become a nest of infection like it happened at the Adria Tour?

After that debacle, you've truly got to wonder whether the US Open would be ill-advised to invite the player who organized the event (the world #1 at that!).

Seems like horrible PR.

If it goes forward that will be the most natural thing: to draw for their cause the guy, who, just like them, doesn't care about the others. I would say that they should use ad material from the highly successful in that regard Adria tour. See, nothing happened there.

Probably the most prudent course of action.

After all, the tail wags the dog, right?

Still admire him athletically... but the other stuff? Yeah, that's not going away.

It is insanely bad look to accept to risk the health of people just because you want your favourite male player to reach some of the so called "records".

It is even worse to run around and preach that those who are erring on the side of caution are in some way at fault.

I didn't get your answer: you don't know or you don't want to tell us?

I don't know what is situation in NY, so I think officials, who know the situation better than me and all of us, will decide wisely...
But, I admire yours wish tennis not to be played, for good of all us on planet Earth and even in Universe... :-D

I actually will welcome tennis, when it is safe to be played. It is only a game, so if one understands that there is no reason to insist on it being played while there is an imminent danger of more serious consequences, just so that your favourite male player can theoretically achieve something.

BTW, did Djokovic "decide wisely" when he organised the Adria tour? It looks like that approach went south rather quickly.

They may indeed be opening up the economy too soon, but tennis is part of an economy, and the USTA stands to lose a lot of money if some sort of version does not happen.

The Adria Tour was juvenile hijinks.

If they follow the same train of thought they shouldn't be closing anything as a lot of industries will suffer as a result of closing them, or is it just because the USO organisers are not accountable or/and too big of a business and can power their way through the system in place for others?

If they are opening up the economy again, then why should the USO be excluded?

The main problem is the southern states that never really closed down in order to minimise transmission.

If every other sport was cancelled, I would be against tennis being played. However, other sports (football, f1, AFL, cricket, etc) have resumed successfully with considerably less outcry  and have had their own challenges (positive tests, travel, accommodation, nature of sport, etc) so why not tennis.

You yourself said that it they "may indeed be opening .. too soon", so you already admitted that in that regard that is probably a mistake. I am not making a judgement solely about USO. If other mass gatherings are held I will be of the same opinion about them. For example, I think that the decision of RG is equally irresponsible and so is the decision about any large gathering of people.

Are any of the posters in this thread even aware of what's been happening in Major League Baseball (a US league) over the past few days?

It's an arguable case, but both events can be conducted in a way that minimises risk; and this is what happens in all businesses across most of the world.

For a couple of months quarantine was essential, but now different strategies are required. You are taking a too doctrinaire approach to policy.

I don't think that I do. Other businesses are restructuring in way that USO can't. They cannot abstain from their participants travelling from al over the world, nor can they avoid contacts the way other businesses can. Many international companies are presently not doing any international travel for that reason and/or are moving to home office type of work not only for now, but also for the foreseeable future, and some that don't are already facing consequences.
