Novak is better in coming back from behind IMO. However Nadal on clay provides a certainty of results that none else can.

Novak's slightly better in very close matches I think but Rafa has a more consistent level whereas Novak's more up and down with higher his and lower los in this department . (Amazing MP save/5 set record but also DF'd on MP a couple times/botched overheads ) All this is relative cuz both are amazing clutch "when the chips are down" players.

I would disagree with that. Nadal's poor record of coming back from 0-2 sets down, the fact the last time he did it was back in 2007 doesn't show me that he is the best when the chips are down.
I will say that Nadal has a legendary fighting spirit, which transcends into all sports. But the chips are down cannot just be making it out of tight moments...I would actually say that the best way to describe that would be that he is one of the greatest ever when his back is against the wall, he becomes more aggressive. So tight moments, yes, but overall when the chips are down, I will say no...and that poor record of recovering from 0-2 sets down shows that.

Fair enough but I'd take him over his rivals for exactly that very heart and fighting spirit. When your back is up against the wall they are exactly the qualities I look for.
