Rafael Nadal vs Lewis Hamilton - Who is the greater champion?

If you put Hamilton in a Ferrari, I doubt he would have half the records that he has now, let alone in a Haas or a Williams. Every one knows he’s not the GOAT except the most biased fanatics.

Of course not. Hamilton has his numbers because Mercedes are the most dominant team in F1 history. If he was at Ferrari then, unless he has a much bigger impact on culture than I realise, he'd have only had a shot in 2017 and 2018. And he could have won in both years unlike Du Bist Spinmeister.

If Senna has a claim I don't see why Schumacher wouldn't have one, unless your argument is Senna's level of competition, which was much higher at the top end. I think a huge proportion of fans will still see Schumacher as the GOAT for years to come. I haven't seen much of Jim Clark and can only go by what I've read and heard, but I'm not sure he leads Fangio (who of course I haven't seen much of either) in the opinions of most experts and polls. Maybe as a pure talent, but the achievements are also important.

Nadal would have been on the podium twice and Hamilton would have won a 250, naturally.
Hamilton I’m going of the presumption that he’s gonna win the title this year. Right now at this current point yeah Schumacher has a case, but at the end of this season, Hamilton will trump Schumacher in practically every relevant stat that Schumacher held the record for. The cases for Clarke and Senna are purely what ifs with their careers having been cut short tragically. But in the short times they were able to show off to everyone their immense skill set.

You put Senna or Schumacher in a Williams and they’d be lapping the field 20 times over right?

Yeah, that is a problem in the GOAT stakes for Schumacher because Hamilton will have the grander stats and be the far less controversial champion regarding sportsmanship. Schumacher will still have a lot of claim through his degree of dominance, such as winning 13 races in an 18-race season, even though frankly his level of performance in 2004 wasn't particularly standout compared to several of his other seasons, but the stars aligned. If Mercedes stacked the deck in Hamilton's favour to the degree Ferrari did for Schumacher, Hamilton would probably have quite a few more wins. Hamilton more than counterbalances this because Merc will be dominant for longer. Cars are very similar for 2021 so it will probably be 8 WDCs for Hamilton.

He could win 10 WDCs.

That’s a null argument. You can say that for literally every single driver in the history of f1
Yeah, you're right. I wasn't suggesting otherwise, I guess this was just my long winded way of saying that the entire question is a null one to begin with.

Always talking trash about his car.

Do you agree with the idea that his car isn't good enough to realistically win any Championships right now, though? Or do these same fans also scream from the rooftops that "Verstappen would crush Hamilton in an equal car"?

I don't really care. It does seem to me that the cars are insanely important, which is also why I think it's a ****ing ridiculous sport.

Imagine tennis if only 20 players were allowed to use poly strings, 20 players had to use gut, and the guys below that were still monkeying around with wooden sticks

Yep, they are. Although it's still very easy to see that someone like Verstappen is better than someone like Vettel, even though Vettel has 4 WDCs. It's lopsided but the best car doesn't always win (2018 being the most recent example).

F1 is not remotely the meritocracy that a sport like tennis is. Budget caps are incoming though from 2021 onwards with a more full effect from 2022 - that doesn't mean things are gonna become super equal and fair though. It's down to the teams to spend the money in the best possible way to design the car, but at least teams will more or less spend the same amount of money. Anyway, I'll leave it there.

I don't imagine Hamilton being particularly good at Tennis somehow. I think he is in the right sport for him.

Had Rafael Nadal took up Formula 1 instead of Tennis, would he be able to beat Lewis Hamilton?

I personally feel that Rafael Nadal and Lewis Hamilton are the two greatest sports champions of all time.
But who do you think is the greater champion of the two?

One plays a sport, the other drives a car. Like comparing an Egamer to a mma fighter

guy who drives a car vs an actual athlete

hmm

The drivers do have to be very fit to drive the car. The upcoming race has 3rd/4th gear as the lowest gear, around the Mugello circuit. It's going to be brutal on the neck, which is regularly taking forces of 5g+. They are all in very good shape.

Didn’t even know they restarted these. Gonna get to check it out when I get the time. He is their current driver of course, so there may be a hint of bias there, but it does seem to be common opinion about Lewis. Young Lewis May have been that wild crazy aggressive marmite type of character, but this Lewis that we’ve seen develop here is almost the perfect sportsman. It’s his consistency that to me is just ridiculous.
